I did forge ahead and just put the 4K on the 1080p timeline and rendered out to 1080p.
That said the 4K wouldn’t play without lots of dropped frames …even some after making them proxy files.
I look forward to trying your suggestion Glenn, thank you!

I hate to bump this but I feel sure someone here knows the answer and I have a deadline in about 15 hours.

Thanks again Ole, the proxy files make it much more bearable!
Unfortunately it looks like I will need to upgrade my CPU as even after making a proxy file of a 4K clip (which didn’t stutter by itself) has issues when just adding text.
Can you or anyone else recommend an 8 core replacement for the one I listed above?
    Thanks very much,
    Randy

It’s good to know the answer to my problem even if I don’t like the answer.
So my Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770S CPU @ 3.10GHz, 3101 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s) won’t handle 1080p fps or 4K well even if my prefs are set for the GPU (ASUS Phoenix GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER OC Graphics Card) to handle them correct?
Can I ask here what CPU and motherboard I should buy here or do I need to go to another forum?

Thanks very much for your expert advice,
    Randy

Good advice…I bought one yesterday from BH Photo which has very good customer service/return policy.
The Nvidia card I bought has 3X the memory and much faster than my old card…which was AMD (which James mentioned doesn’t play well with VP 17 anyway) so I hope to see a big difference.
    Thanks for everyone’s help!

    Any opinions on this card?

That’s the info I needed, thanks all!
It probably also explains why my renders have been so slow with Vegas Pro 17…I’m currently running AMD.

I asked a sales rep and he said “It will render any edits you tell it to, regardless of resolution.”
I’m pretty sure he’s right according to the specs.
My question is, does VP 17 work better with Nvidia or AMD cards or does it matter nowadays (as I recall 12 preferred Nvidia.)
    Thanks,
