    Thanks very much Douglas,
cache memory would be my first guess, Randy.

Funny after all these years I still didn’t know exactly what cache memory is until I just went and googled it. That said, this is a new system, can there be a physical problem with my cache memory or are you thinking I configured something wrong (may be possible since I did a few of the Vista tweaks floating around out there)

Can you export the project to a portable drive and save on another machine? I’m still seeing some memory issues with 8.1. Not sure on the answer to 8c, however.

I wound up re-starting the PC, opening up V8c, selecting the project media folder, and then opening the project to delete the unused media….it all went swimmingly : ) So maybe clearing the cache did the trick?

Isn’t shooting ducks in the dark fun sometimes?

ummmm….no sir…especially when one doesn’t have much ammunition to shoot with : (

BTW, did you open the same project/save same project in 8.1 that you attempted to open in 8c?

No sir, I did have enough sense to open the original (created in V8a on an external drive).

I am having an issue with this new PC (Windows can’t check for updates for some reason) that I’m in the middle of resolving via email correspondence with MS. Hopefully I won’t wind up having to reformat to fix my “tweaks”.
Anyway, I’m learning….hey, I know what cache memory is now!

    Thanks again very much Douglas,
    Randy

Well I would think that is good news. The SR-VS30 is a popular deck I find it hard to believe no owners here or over at the SCM forum have replied yet.
I have a support request in to Windows…I guess they are my last hope.
Thanks for your encouraging post Fredrick,

    I ran across this post:

Just upgraded DSLE to MAX and purchased JVC SRVS30 deck, All went well, but I cannot get Matrox DV Device control to activate or see video of the deck. Using Premiere 6.5, Win 2K, & most recent (downloaded) version of DigiUtils 7.1.
    -Jeff Miller

How’s the JVC showing up in Device Manager? If it’s showing up as an Imaging Device, it’s using the wrong driver. You need to right click on it and select Uninstall. Then, go to Action>Scan for hardware changes. When it detects the device, point the Wizard to the DigiUtils setup files. Once this is done, it should show up as a 1394 DV Camcorder under Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Everything should be fine at that point.

My deck does indeed keep showing up under Imaging Device but following this guy’s suggestion I don’t know what else to point it to…do you?
    Thanks for your patience,
    Randy

Do you have any other firewire video devices that you could test to see if they work?

Yessir, I plugged in a Canon XL1S into the same PCI firewire card and it shows up in device manager

I just wonder if that deck doesn’t look like a regular miniDV firewire camera to Vista?

It seems Vista knows what it is because whenever I turn the deck on it states “Windows needs to install software for your JVC SR-VS30 AV/C tuner”

I haven’t had to load drivers on Visa 64 for any of my firewire camcorders.
When I plugged in the XL1 it didn’t do anything but make the sound that it was connected (didn’t seem to install anything)
    Thanks John,

December 16, 2008 at 3:59 pm in reply to: trouble with 8.0C and 8.1

Well I uninstalled both and re-installed 8.1 but basically getting the same thing.
I’m thinking it has something to do with my hardware. Whenever I turn on my deck Windows tries to install drivers for it…it knows it is a JVC SR-VS30 but can’t find drivers (I don’t recall having to ever find drivers for it on my old 32 bit XP system) and reports it wasn’t installed. I have Googled for the 64 bit driver but no luck….any thoughts?
    Thanks again,
    Randy

You need to read the error message carefully and follow the link to the Microsoft web site where it will give you another link to the software you need to download to get the help working properly.

I did that but assumed it was some bug since I wasn’t trying to go to a help section …just adjust an effect

As for Vegas Pro 8.1, it cannot see any FX that are not 64-bit. Wavehammer is not 64-bit. Wave Hammer Surround is. Try that instead.

Okay, thanks I will do that right after I take George’s advice and uninstall both and then reinstall 8.1.

BTW, this is my first post here…it’s great to find a forum where someone will respond….the SCM forum is becoming a ghost town.

    Thanks guys,
    Randy
