Strange…I had no problems in Vista 64.
Are you still running Vista 64? If so how do you zoom in and out?
    Thanks,
    Randy

    Good news:
there is indeed a MS site for updated drivers at https://www.microsoft.com/hardware/windows7/support.mspx

    Bad news:
the update for my mouse didn’t make a difference….crap!!!
    I gotta have this feature!
    Anyone have a suggestion?
    Thanks very much,
    Randy

You may be right Allen and I will check to see if there is one but it’s highly unlikely that this (MS) mouse will have any updates for Win 7 since it’s just now in RC status.
Also seems starnge that the mouse performs as expected (including the wheel) in all other programs…it just doesn’t zoom in V8.
I’ll report back if I find a solution but in the meantime, if anyone has any suggestions please fire away.
I read somewhere about running/installing things in a “compatibility” mode to where win 7 can run programs all the way back to windows 95!
    Thanks,

Sure….although I had selected Vegas in the control panel and the Shuttle icon showed “Vegas 8 has the focus” when hovering the icon it showed “global settings” (where Sonar showed Sonar).
So I finally figured out I needed go to options / change target device and point it to Vegas.
I feel a little silly but I don’t remember having to do that before (just selected Vegas in the Control Panel dropdown).
Anyway, all is well…thanks for asking.

Oh I see…well like I say once I drug the clips to another track they turned from red to normal.
It’s probably an isolated deal and should not be an issue after I get the new hard drive (tomorrow).
    Thanks for your time JR,

Did you open Vegas Pro 8.0c in the mean time? I have noticed that after a reboot, if I open 8.1 it can’t read any of my HDV media. If I open 8.0c first then 8.1, it can read them just fine.

I had 8.0c open just prior to opening 8.1 (without a reboot)
When you say “it can’t read” do you mean it can’t find them when trying to open or nothing plays in the preview?
I should mention, in all fairness to Vegas, this may all be due to a bad OS hard drive issue (have another on the way) because I have several programs that just lock up and won’t respond… although this hasn’t happened in a few days V8.1 just did it.
I should probably wait until I get the new HD installed before I do any more whining and just try to make 8C work until then.
    Thanks JR,
    Randy

Sorry for the bother but it’s somehow fixed…..I noticed on a track above there were working avis so I dragged the red ones to that track and all seems fine….still curious though if anyone knows what happened.
    Thanks,

January 4, 2009 at 9:22 pm in reply to: If you use a JVC deck in Vista 64…

So Vista asks the device it’s name, the device replied with the string “JVC SR-VS30” and Vista has no idea what that means but it looks to you like it recognised it becasue it knew it’s name. It just knows that there is a device with a name and nothing more.

    Vista is stoopid

My case has finally escalated to “an Escalation Engineer for the Windows Vista Support Team” and he had me do a bunch of (what seemed to be) redundant crap and then create a C:\Windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log file to send to him.
I’ll report back if/when we learn what the heck is going on.
    Thanks for your patience John,
    Randy
