AVIs won’t load in 8.1 but will in 8.0c
Posted by Willie Bobo on January 21, 2009 at 6:30 pmHi all,
I searched but didn’t find:
When I load an old project into 8.1 I get the expected “can’t find Wave Hammer” error but everything else seems to load fine; however the AVIs on the timeline are red in color and nothing shows up in the preview…any ideas why?
TIA,

January 21, 2009 at 6:32 pmWhat codec do the files use? Vegas Pro 8.1 can only use 64-bit 3rd party codecs so if you only have the 32-bit version of the codec, it would explain why it plays in 8.0c and not 8.1.

January 21, 2009 at 6:35 pmSorry for the bother but it’s somehow fixed…..I noticed on a track above there were working avis so I dragged the red ones to that track and all seems fine….still curious though if anyone knows what happened.
Thanks,

January 21, 2009 at 6:39 pmDid you open Vegas Pro 8.0c in the mean time? I have noticed that after a reboot, if I open 8.1 it can’t read any of my HDV media. If I open 8.0c first then 8.1, it can read them just fine.

I had 8.0c open just prior to opening 8.1 (without a reboot)
When you say “it can’t read” do you mean it can’t find them when trying to open or nothing plays in the preview?
I should mention, in all fairness to Vegas, this may all be due to a bad OS hard drive issue (have another on the way) because I have several programs that just lock up and won’t respond… although this hasn’t happened in a few days V8.1 just did it.
I should probably wait until I get the new HD installed before I do any more whining and just try to make 8C work until then.
Thanks JR,

If I drag and drop an HD file on the timeline (either HDV or AVCHD) Vegas complains that it’s an unsupported format.

January 22, 2009 at 2:37 pmOh I see…well like I say once I drug the clips to another track they turned from red to normal.
It’s probably an isolated deal and should not be an issue after I get the new hard drive (tomorrow).
Thanks for your time JR,
