You need to use After Effect’s tracker on the original video. Select the video in your timeline, and go to the top menu, Animation>Track Motion.

Place the cross hairs within the falling object and make sure the inner box is large enough to see all of some feature. For instance, if the falling object has a red dot on it, have the tracker box be larger than the dot. If the falling object is small enough, have the box be just larger than it.

The outer box is the area After Effects will look to see if the image pattern in the smaller box is anywhere to be found, so the bigger you make the outer box, the harder time After Effects will have of making the right decision.

OK, now that I’ve talked about the tracker, you could avoid all that hassle simply by keyframing by hand the object to fall. 🙂 Because gravity is one directional, and falling things tend to be short sequences, you could simply go to the point in the timeline where the object to be replaced falls into view and set a position keyframe for your new object, so it’s on top of the original.

Move a few frames forward and reposition the object over the orginal. Move back between the frames and you might need to adjust it again, but basically, the new object will follow the path of the orginal.

Sorry my bad, AAF is available from Premiere Pro, so no go for Prem 6.5.

NTSC and PAL get confusing, it might well be the source of your troubles. i’ve exported some videos fine in the wrong format, especially when just for PC, but the one time i wanted to actually convert a video of someone, instead of just graphics, the NTSC to PAL first attempt was awful, it completely through out the sync.

If you don’t have to convert the footage, I’d go back to the beginning and try with the PAL presets.

I’ve tried to do this before and unfortunately Encore doesn’t like muptiple highlights in one place.

It’s easy enough to create a highlight away from the button. Although for text, there are issues because Encore highlights aren’t anti-aliased, so the text is a bit blocky.

Where Encore falls down though is that it treats any highlights in a area, including additional buttons’ highlights, as one highlight. So if you have three titles in a box, all three will appear when you roll over any button.

As far as I know, those avi files are no longer used. Encore creates quite a big folder for the project.

Although, I normally wait until I’ve burnt the final DVD before deleting anything though. Mor often than not, the first DVD highlights some glitch, I’ve left in, that requires the orginal files.

As a test, you could make a copy of your Encore project, then try moving the avi files, and then opening the copied Encore project to see what happens.

Use the Grow Bounds filter in AE. Put it before your blur and you should get the result you need.

Alternatively, choose Layer>Pre Compose… on your smaller comp. After Effects will make a new comp the same size as your final comp containing the smaller comp. You can now apply the effects and they should work too.

I’ve not heard of this problem before, but I do know tests I’ve done exporting similar videos via render queue & via export produces a much better result using the render queue.

Have you checked your source video? Is there any chance the DV capture was screwed up? It might be worth checking the video and audio in Premiere (or whatever you used to capture), hopefully you’ll spot changes you need to make, and then export an AAF file to After Effects.

With a lot of time, and patience, I think you could do the Nike lights using Trapcode’s 3D Stroke, but as I don’t have the plugin, I can’t tell you much more about it. Sorry
