Which CS version are you running?

Have you checked AE/Premiere memory settings to check that they allowing enough RAM for the rest of your system?
Also have you checked your task manager so see if all RAM really is being used by AE/premiere, or if there is any other suspicious RAM usage by other processes?

So your project is set to DV\DVCPRO-NTSC and your rendering out an AVI but what codec are you using?

Do these videos that don’t load properly in AE have any problems playing in video players on the same computer?
If so then there might be damaged codecs or codec conflicts on your system, which might be affecting separately what AE can encode and decode.

My first move would be to download and install the latest versions of all your codecs installed on your system, which is easy if you use codec packs such as K-lite for example (which I find quite comprehensive and stable – at least in Win7)

If you are using a PC then it’s worth noting that occasionally you can get “delayed write fail” pop up on the bottom right of the desktop (little yellow exclamation mark symbol).
I find this happens occasionally over network storage and very very occasionally on local storage if the OS has some problems.
I’ve never managed to locate a solid cause for such glitches though.

It is rather unlikely but possible that this might have been the reason for a random TGA file not to save correctly.

January 3, 2011 at 1:52 pm in reply to: Replacing audio in video

    Thanks guys for your ideas.
I don’t have QT pro but I do have access to Adobe audition and after a few attempts managed to get a decent result from it.

The original video was using the animation codec at 75% quality so rendering via AE again at animation 100% would have maintained quality for sure but also increased file size (already standing at 5.6GB)

I’m amazed that AE/premiere/Adobe Media Encoder do not have an obvious facility to strip and replace audio tracks in video.

    Cheers

Charlie’s idea is actually a better solution so long as you make sure the solid layer is an adjustment layer (look for a check box for the solid layer in a column denoted by a black and white disk).
Make sure the adjustment layer is above the video layer you want to affect.
