Thanks Alperen for your idea. I had a look at cc pixel poly and it seems to be a simplified version of shatter. It lacks the ability to break the layer up into randomly sized and shaped chunks. I had a look at how particular could be combined with cc pixel poly (and shatter for that matter too) and I can’t see any obvious solution.
Online tutorials don’t seem to cover this mixing of effects either.

Any push in the right direction would be most appreciated!

Thanks Steven and Brian for your help.

I discovered that there is an update for Audition (Patch 3.01)
It mentions that it fixes exactly the issue I’ve got and that its cause is due to the fact that my machine has more than 4 CPU cores.

Patch installed now and everything works perfectly.

I will remember to post hardware specs in future!!
