Will it work for you? Until, as you say, try it, I wouldn’t know? But, I do have a triangular morphing Mask that has some rather pleasant out-of-focus edges that allow one video to “show-through” the edges of the other.

The Pi thing? It is driving me bonkers-mad. If you have another solution I am ALL ears! And thanks for taking the time to show interest in MY issues.

January 9, 2009 at 11:01 am in reply to: Trying to make Alpha of out side edges of screen

The pictures are all portrait, so I have black edges on both sides. Is there a way to mask this?” Well, you might want to confirm that these black edges are nothing other than “space”. As you quite rightly indicated, as they are Portrait you may very well have empty space on each side, and as such we can’t mask out that which ISN’T there. Yes? The one thing we can do is to match the aspect ratio of the still to that of the project. That would cure the “black” or rather empty bars on the edges.

Or make the outside edges alpha and see thru?” Do you actually see anything filling in these edges, when you place a track with an Event directly under it?

Also, when using the pan and crop tool, its not letting me slide the pictures to the right as far as I want too. Is there a way to expand this?” Yes, this is an observation many people eventually get to. The Pan tool is literally that: It simulates you Pan-ing a camera’s “F”rame from left to right or from Right to Left. You move the Pan tool Right, the picture appears to go Left. If you look at the workspace for Pan you will see the “F”, indicating “frame”, in dotted outline. OK, it that might appear as IF the picture is moving, but of course, as when you pan a camera you are actually pan-ing across a scene – the White House doesn;t actually move left or right! The same holds true here. The picture you have is not moving, but the frame of the viewer is.

When I try to slide to the right the picture starts to go away.” That’s correct, if you just use Pan then at some point you would be moving the picture out of “F”rame and it would prematurely vanish from the frame. What I would do would be to SIZE the picture in Pan/Crop and then use Track Motion to position the picture. This way you get to get ALL the Picture in frame until YOU decide when it should vanish stage right.

I can not see a way of doing this.

However, what you are after is trying to feather or “blur” the sharp edge of the garage surround, with pre-existing keyframes (kfs) – yes?

What I just did was to create Mask and substitute, by using TAKES, each of the 2 sets of footage for a BLACK and an GREEN Generated media. So the previously Event1 now has a BLACK “Take2” and the Event2 now has a GREEN “Take2”. I then rendered out this “odd” shape which has a GREEN inner and a BLACK surround.

    OK . . . .

Placing this Grn/Blk Event on Track 1, above the original Tracks, I applied a Chroma key to the GREEN section, produces a CK BLACK Mask. I set the CK “Show mask only” and set Track 1 to Multiple Mask and made Track 2 a child to Track 1.

    OK . . .

Now I applied a “Gaussian Blur” to the Grn/Blk Event and adjusted to get till I got the Blur to appear on the grn/blk edge. In doing this it makes a really, quite acceptable “Feather”.

    So to recap:

1] I can not think of a way multiple “Feathers” – after the event. I can select all the Pan/Crop MASK k/fs, but I can not then apply Feather to all these.

2] I made an “garbage matte mask” to allow me to introduce a blurry/feathery type edge to what was a sharp edge. As part of the blurring has an element of transparency it looks quite pleasing – well I think so.

    Best I can think of.

  • Alan? “Save in the exact same AVI format as the original movie maybe? ” – Where? FROM Vegas or FROM Pi? And the 1049×576 or what?

    Grazie

  • Thank you Alan.

I am rendering to AVI. I have taken the width from the PREVIEW that VEGAS displays. If VEGAS is displaying 1049 then I would want to bring back as 1049. Doesn’t that make sense?

If you are saying I need to make widths as multiples of 4 what would I need to do to make Pi “match” what Vegas displays?

    TIA,

    Grazie

  • “I’m not sure why you have an NTSC one and not a PAL one, ” – I’ll look . . but that might still not get a solution?

“Whatever stage size you set in particleIllusion, that’s your output resolution.” Sure, agreed .. but ..

“So if your stage is 1049 x 576, that’s what it is.” Well no, Alan, and while still within Pi it comes up with this different width? Do you want a screen grab?

“If it’s coming in to Vegas as a different size, then Vegas is reinterpreting the size based on a different pixel aspect ratio and you need to adjust that in Vegas.” I can READ this in Vegas as I said, but it is revealing the 1052 figure already in Pi. Now that can not be correct?

January 1, 2009 at 1:08 pm in reply to: Using basic shapes

Eh? Theo I am not sure that that is what Raz is after? OK, if you are wanting masks, but here Raz is wanting “shapes”. And yes this was linked in his comment about “masks”, but I think THAT was because that he regarding the ability of Vegas to create masks. And that is a very short step to a process of drawing! But I could be very wrong?

Now if it is shapes you want, then either import from a graphics package or try some of the Wingding or Dingbat shapes from within the Character Map option.

Vegas doesn’t include a drawing package. However you could very well use Windows Draw package –

December 28, 2008 at 7:05 am in reply to: ERROR: A necessary function has not been implemented

I’m using VP8.0c, and for this a sample M2T file.

    You are getting 2 results:

1] ERROR on trying to open in IzoRx

    2] Out of Sync

For 1] I get the same result – an ERROR message. However, I am NOT getting this in Vegas7. Plus In V7 I get the Audio to open in both IzoRx and Sound Forge. But here’s the thing, back in VP8.0c I can NOT open in IzoRx but I can in SF – and ONLY as the “Open in SF” option, the “Open Copy in SF” – no!

As far as I can tell I am not getting 2] – out of sync issues.

    So, to recap:

In Vegas 7 I can open in either IzoRx or SF, and, as far as I can tell, no out of sync issues

In VegasPro 8.0c I can not open in IzoRx but I can ONLY open in SF as “Open in Sound Forge” but I definitely can’t “Open as Copy”, and, as far as I can tell, no out of sync issues.

So, V7 yes; V8 not fully, only using SF as “Open in Sound Forge”; no out of synch issues as far as I can tell.

What IS interesting is that the MPEG2 audio gets “converted” to WAV. I can read this in its properties. However, I have no idea what this can mean for this “issue” or that it does or doesn’t have any bearing on the issue at all – I am just noting this “switch”?

Just to also confirm, I have no issue openning WAVs which are part of the AVIs.

Is it possible that VP8c is choking on the MPEG2 “handshake” to IzoRx? As I can successfully accomplish this in V7, to me this doesn’t suggest that there is something substantially or fundamentally awry, which in itself would point and agree what you are saying there is a “bug”.

Interesting, I am somewhat dumbfounded that this has not been picked-up by others?

  • Ah! I understand now. You want the BACKGROUND on the PREVIEW not in ProType Titler to be something other than BLACK. That is different!

In SONY “Text” Generated Media I can add a Background Colour to ALL of the background. I don’t see or read an option to do this PTT. To achieve that I need to have a solid colour in a track directly below the the PTT Event.

However if I want to add a background colour to emphasize some text, and only in its bound box, I need to highlight the text by scrubbing across the face of the text, which opens the “Span Properties”, click on the Style tab and use the “Background” control.

    Grazie

  • Make sure that the “Alpha” Slider is over to the right, or “100”. Otherwise we only get what appears to be BLACK! Actually what we are seeing is an absence of colour – meaning transparency – but that is defaulted to appear as BLACK. So you could be changing colours and NOT seeing the result, because you have had transparency removing the colour to start with!

Does that make sense to you?

    Grazie
