    Hi,
In a scene I shot there is an open garage door which I’ve masked out and put in a moving background. The camera is moving so there are quite a lot of keyframes used to keep the door masked. Now that it’s done I want to feather the mask but it seems I have to feather each keyframe-if I start at frame 1 and use the feather it will go back to no feather at frame 2. How can I feather the whole mask for the whole scene? Thanks for any help you can give me.

I can not see a way of doing this.

However, what you are after is trying to feather or “blur” the sharp edge of the garage surround, with pre-existing keyframes (kfs) – yes?

What I just did was to create Mask and substitute, by using TAKES, each of the 2 sets of footage for a BLACK and an GREEN Generated media. So the previously Event1 now has a BLACK “Take2” and the Event2 now has a GREEN “Take2”. I then rendered out this “odd” shape which has a GREEN inner and a BLACK surround.

    OK . . . .

Placing this Grn/Blk Event on Track 1, above the original Tracks, I applied a Chroma key to the GREEN section, produces a CK BLACK Mask. I set the CK “Show mask only” and set Track 1 to Multiple Mask and made Track 2 a child to Track 1.

    OK . . .

Now I applied a “Gaussian Blur” to the Grn/Blk Event and adjusted to get till I got the Blur to appear on the grn/blk edge. In doing this it makes a really, quite acceptable “Feather”.

    So to recap:

1] I can not think of a way multiple “Feathers” – after the event. I can select all the Pan/Crop MASK k/fs, but I can not then apply Feather to all these.

2] I made an “garbage matte mask” to allow me to introduce a blurry/feathery type edge to what was a sharp edge. As part of the blurring has an element of transparency it looks quite pleasing – well I think so.

    Best I can think of.

Thanks Grazie. That does work. Do you think it will work with a mask that is “evolving” as the clip runs? As I said, The shape of the mask at frame one is considerably changed by frame 300. I’ll try.
One more question: Did you ever get a definitive answer concerning “Vegas to Particle Illusion Workflow”? I’ve figured out a workaround but was hoping you would have a better way of working with 16:9 ratio from Vegas to PI3 and back again. Thanks again for your reply.

Will it work for you? Until, as you say, try it, I wouldn’t know? But, I do have a triangular morphing Mask that has some rather pleasant out-of-focus edges that allow one video to “show-through” the edges of the other.

The Pi thing? It is driving me bonkers-mad. If you have another solution I am ALL ears! And thanks for taking the time to show interest in MY issues.

    Grazie
