Terry is exactly right. I’ve done this several times now.
What you could also benefit from is Satish Kumar’s DeBUGmode Frameserver utility, which I used, that serves up frames directly FROM Vegas into Pi and use it – the Vegas FS AVI as the background/backdrop to your work within Pi.
Now working and finishing and wishing to render out from Pi, what you have to do is create an AVI which has the ALPHA Channel activated, and for this I use the Largarith codec. But make sure you enable the Alpha in the Largarith preferences (RGBA – it was that “A” that I hadn’t included!), it isn’t ON by default – that caught me out for days! Now once back into Vegas with your newly created Pi work you still have to inform Vegas of the Alpha presence. You go to the Media properties and make sure the “premultiplied” option is engaged. If you don’t, you wont get the Alpha transparency background active, and this WILL block out the tracks below.
Once you get the knack of it, it is quite straightforward.

If you wish, send me a Grabbed Still from the timeline?
If it is low level stuff then maybe your Viewer is set high, to compensate. And that is why you ARE seeing it lighter?

Do you mean this type of work?
https://www.tiffen.com/promist.htmFor my needs I am lucky to have bought the “upgrade” for Magic Bullet Looks. It is set as a Plugin for VEgas and works in VP9a. MBL comes with a great set of Diffusion variables:
https://www.redgiantsoftware.com/products/all/magic-bullet-looks/Not quite diffusion, but you could get close with Vegas Pro “Glow” and some additional compositing – not quite the same I know. But as they are IN Vegas already they are for free!
Also, have a look at Tiffens’s DFx tools. Not, a plug for Vegas Pro, but do have a look. https://www.tiffen.com/dfx_essentials_homepage.html
You could also try NewBLUE: https://www.newbluefx.com/

There is a great selection of Online Tutorials to access, directly from within VP. And one of the simplest of these is what you are asking for Fred.
So, on the main Toolbar:
Go > Help > Interactive Tutorials > “Video and Still Image Tutorial” > “How to Add Video Effects”
These Tutorials are packed full of free, quick and straightforward assistance.

Move on from Cookie Cutter. What it does is great, but you are now finding, it is limited.
For the example you’ve shown, I would be using:
1] Track Motion
2] Multi track Media options and compositing
3] Bezier Masking and Pan/Crop rotation.
Using either ALL or SOME of these Functions above, in combination, will give you the control and ease for changes that Cookie Cutter just doesn’t have.

August 5, 2009 at 5:29 am in reply to: Satish’s Frameserver released. And again, it’s free!Norman I’ve put a request out to have your question answered.
I use FS to get video into Particle Illusion. I render this this out and use it back in Vegas. Maybe I could FS FROM Pi back to a new instance of Vegas? Interesting possibility you raise Norman?

August 4, 2009 at 3:38 am in reply to: Satish’s Frameserver released. And again, it’s free!Norman, it’s more than just that. You don;lt have to wait for a full render to do this. The idea of Frameserving is to serve “Frames”. Meaning that what ever you are doing in Vegas and prior to a whole hard copy render, you can employ FS to shuffle frames OUT of Vegas to another application. I know it sounds like voodoo but that’s exactly what it does. Using FS you aren’t actually rendering a full bodied avi.

August 4, 2009 at 3:32 am in reply to: Satish’s Frameserver released. And again, it’s free!I don’t use adobe Premiere cs3, but if adobe Premiere cs3 can import AVI files then I don’t see why not? Having said THAT, I can’t Frameserve to DivX, which also imports AVI – and yes I realise that AVI is just the wrapper.

What do I think?!?
OUTSTANDING!
I’d have had the “Spinners” slightly more parallel and spaced out more and their numbers increase over time.
But the way you did the PsP edit/erase/remove from some of the tails so that they would “appear” to go around AND then how you “tailored” this fabric to the body parts. WOW!
I kept up with most of it, and I am always grateful when a real technician spends the time to impart theior knowledge this way. Yes I know you have a vested interest in Pi, but even still . . .
Great stuff. Thanks ..
