August 12, 2009 at 10:07 pmI believe you have to render your effects to the video in PI and then send it back to Vegas.
Or… You can create the effect with an alpha channel in PI, render it out, send it to Vegas and place it above your video and then manipulate its position with track motion.

August 15, 2009 at 7:13 amTerry is exactly right. I’ve done this several times now.
What you could also benefit from is Satish Kumar’s DeBUGmode Frameserver utility, which I used, that serves up frames directly FROM Vegas into Pi and use it – the Vegas FS AVI as the background/backdrop to your work within Pi.
Now working and finishing and wishing to render out from Pi, what you have to do is create an AVI which has the ALPHA Channel activated, and for this I use the Largarith codec. But make sure you enable the Alpha in the Largarith preferences (RGBA – it was that “A” that I hadn’t included!), it isn’t ON by default – that caught me out for days! Now once back into Vegas with your newly created Pi work you still have to inform Vegas of the Alpha presence. You go to the Media properties and make sure the “premultiplied” option is engaged. If you don’t, you wont get the Alpha transparency background active, and this WILL block out the tracks below.
Once you get the knack of it, it is quite straightforward.

December 31, 2009 at 2:12 pmI got the same problem too. I click the “record” button, and I choose that Largarith codec. After that I’m clicking configure, and swapping RGB with RGBA. There are also some boxes in this window, but I leave them unchecked. I click OK, and OK again. Then a Windows with lots of different functions appears. Around the middle of the box there is a function called “Save Alha”, and when I click that one more boxes appears. Are they supposed to be unchecked? Or? I’ve left them unchecked. When I’ve finished rendering I export the AVI file to Vegas 9. I drag them into the timeline, and right click on it choosing properties, Media and swapping “Alpha channel” from “none” to “Premultiplied”. The background color is black. I click OK. Now, I’m importing a windows movie. Wildlife or something is it called. I drag it below the PI movie I made, and click Play. The only thing that I can see is the wildlife movie playing. I can’t see the “effect” that I rendered with PI and imported into Vegas.
Can you possible help me :)?
