Make sure you DON’T have any DV control options checked/engaged in the Vegas Video Capture program. As you are dealing with a stream of converted AV, with no DV control markers options within that stream, VidCap could/would be thinking that it should be doing, well, some type of controlling, when fundamentally, it can’t.
This used to catch me out many years ago with VidCap and could ALSO be the reason why you are getting that same message as I remember when I did this through the DAZZLE ( ugh . . !)

Hmmm… nasty . .
OK, and until somebody else chimes in here, what I did was take a screen grab off of the You and placed it on a Vegas timeline.
To see exactly what was going on I magnified it in Pan/Crop and notice that that halo on the white parrots is made from a blue (on the outside) and turquoise (on thew white of the bird).
I tried futzing with 2nd colour corrector. not really controllable, but then I tried colour corrector and removed some of the saturation – not what you want to hear, I know, it does reduce the colour impact, but then I then “pushed” towards the red/yellow for the High wheel and yellow/green on the Medium wheel and the same for the Low wheel. This has the effect of reducing the blue/torq influence, but this has the unfortunate result of making the look a bit, well, nicotine! I then added a further EXTRA additional Colour Corrector but, and knowing it was a wee bit yellow, this time I pushed towards the blue.
I think it is better than the halo, and also the bird looks correctly whiter than bluer! And I’ve kinda reduced the halo . ..

Excalibur is a scripting software and is accessible within Vegas Pro. Platinum doesn’t do Application scripting. Useful Comparison Chart here: https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/vegaspro/compare
However, also do try “Auto Ripple“. It’s up there on the Toolbar.
1] Click on “Auto Ripple” Icon Down Arrow and select the option you want
2] Click ON – you have to do that too!
3] Go to the very first Event and just drag right
. . or . .
4] Having “Auto Ripple” engaged, just drag new Media to the front of the queue and the stuff on its right will nudge right to accommodate the exact correct space needed for the new Media, now Event, too – done!
Once used DO remember to click it off again!

So you have a Main Project with NestA and now NestB. All the “reverse”, “trimming” and “compression”(?) is/has been done within their respective Veg projects, and ONLY in the Main project are you assembling your video – yes?
When you say replace, is this a simple “swap-out” of the position of NestA for NestB? You aren’t doing a replace by the “Take” method?
If all of the above is true, then I don’t see why you should be getting this result? It all sounds good to me?

I have not heard of a plugin PB. But, there is a neato Vegas script that takes an existing “still”; opens up your preferred Graphics editor with that still; you work on the still and save it and it comes BACK into Vegas as a “Take2”.
I should really get busy using an old PSP module “Animation Shop”. See if that can be fired-up by this script?

Can you now provide a view of the Timeline showing some of the controls you have working there – especially the Track Header; the Project Media pane and the controls on the actual Media Event on the timeline. It looks to me, if this is not a problem with the captured source, as if you have got an FX in play? Can you do that? Also trying clicking on the FX bypass icon on the Preview Toolbar. See if that makes a difference.

First off if you have a VF file then this is NOT part of the Vegas Pro Series – correct? If it was then they would be VEG files. So what is it you want to upgrade to?
Secondly I have not come across an issue in wanting to open “older”=previous versions of Vegas Video/VPro PROJECT to “newer”=recent versions of that family. If you think about it for a second or two, it would be lame of SONY to restrict older projects to not be able to convert to the latest version? It would be financial suicide?
Thirdly, you can’t go back. Projects made in a version VP9 wont open in VP8 nor VP8 in Vegas Video 7 . . and so on . .
Fourthly – acid test! – download a trail version you wish to U/G to and test your file – simples!

“how do i use a grabbed still, is it the same as taking a shot from it?” Yes.
To grab a still from the timeline, go to the Vegas Preview screen. On the Preview screen Toolbar click on the floppy disc icon, the “Save Snapshot to file . . ” . What this will do is give you a still of what is under the Timeline Cursor.
