Vegas is a video, Non Linear Editing package. It’s great for video. Can you say what it is you are wanting to do with photos? What resolution are you wanting to retain? I’ve got a separate graphics and photo package that I lean on for that work.

I use DVDA5. Make sure you have the Remote buttons “Pause” active:-
Menu Page Properties >> Remote Buttons >> PAUSE check it is set to On.
Or am I to think you want a PAUSE, VCR type-button, actually visible on the Video as it is playing? So you can use a Mouse Cursor (?) to click on it to PAUSE?

In Vegas Split where you want a pause. Make the now previous Event a Subclip. Right click on this New Subclip and remove the Loop from its value. Move the Events to the right of this Subclip to creat a gap, this will equate to the amount of “pause”. Now, pull the end of the Subclip to the Right and you’ll see the Subclip “pause”. Job done!

No worries.
Preview may be rough. I beieve you need to have QT installed on the PC. Try rendering out a small bit.
OK, mixed media projects are tough on processing to Preview. I’d contemplate converting/rendering-out to your Project settings PRIOR to a full edit.

If you just want to make a data DVD, then fine. If you want to make a Set Top Box playable DVD then you need to use one of the VEGAS DVD templates that WILL produce the files you need to make a DVD.
Here is my chain of workflow:-
1] Import my footage and set my Project Settings to match.
2] Edit.
3] Now, I either render directly to DVD files OR, depending on the complexity of the Edit – this equates to the demands placed in my PC by my extravagant EDIT – make an intermeadiate lossless file OR go straight to the DVD file template for those DVD files.
4] import those DVD files into SONY DVDA to make the DVD.
You will have further questions, I just know you will, go ahead and ask.
Beginning is just the beginning. I’ve made a very useful career out of “beginning”!

2] First off try using Match Media icon in Project settings.
3] Stock footage? From where? What CODEC?
You’ve got some variables that need to be ascertained prior to setting project settings.

Master track will give Fade to Colour. But in these circumstances I’d employ a Nest into another instance of Vegas.
