  • You also have to be very aware of what frame rate your editor is working in for motion graphics.

    Stills obviously don’t care.

  • there is a command to select everything to the right of your curser.

Turn on the tracks you want, and then do a “select everyting to the right”

  • I use text++ for my ale editing.

Another method you could use would be to unlink the clips in Avid, use the modify clips command to turn off the unwanted audio tracks, and then relink the clips.

I’ve done this when there are way too many blank audio channels coming in from certain cameras or recorders.

Visually, i agree, it is a bit odd to mark an out at the end of the timeline, but from a realistic “working” standpoint, it has no effect on your ability to mark an in point here…play or scrub to another spot, and mark an out point. Not sure a “workaround” is really necessary.

my workflow has always been to add a marker at each change request point of the version of the timeline the changes are directed towards. In other words, you go through the entire change list, adding markers, before you do any of the changes. Then, duplicate the timeline (always do changes to a duplicate timeline) and your markers will remain in the original position as the timecode naturally changes based on what you do to the timeline.

I currently use Kollaborate for client review, and can import the notes into either Resolve or Avid, where they again show up a markers, before I do any of the changes.

  • can you not resize and position the key item with in it’s own effect controls?

I think “Boston” has truly gotten to the root of the problem here. Very helpful.

Brie, is there no way to ban the bots that are filling all these forums?

  • Ok Cow moderators…its time to shut these bots down.

A few people are answering every single question…without actually saying anything. (Starting to sound like clients:))

  • I have been a user of Mimiq for about 5 years now, and yes to use it you need either Avid Ultimate, or a perpetual license to use bin sharing.

The original poster did not mention shared projects, just using network drives, and you do not need anything special for Avid to simply see a network drive.

If i turn off Mimiq, i simply lose the ability to invoke bin locking when multiple users are on the same project.

I actually worked on a series two years ago at a facility with 3 suites, and a brand new (non Avid) shared storage system. I assumed we could do bin locking, but they didn’t have Ultimate, just basic Avid. This did not limit any of us from seeing the network storage however, we just had to be careful about which shows/bins we were all using.

The OP says they did turn on alldrives command. Sounds silly, but I would try that one more time, and make sure it worked, as that would be the most common reason to not see a network drive. If not that, then perhaps there is something odd in how they are being shared.

Just move it from the Avid MediaFiles/mxf/(guessing)1/ folder on the internal drive to the same location on the external drive. Relaunch Avid, so it can rescan and rebuild the database.
