I believe if you were to use the “unregister” button on avid, leaving the checkbox “remove all information from this computer” unchecked, then relaunch avid, and register, that information will appear for you to
say “yes, thats my id and serial number”

Also, your system id comes up when you launch the software, and when you click the “about avid media composer” tab.

do you have any outside audio plugins…trying the remember the name…i think the logo is a flower or something like that? They help convert audio from various sources inside the mac…soundflower???

The reason i can’t remember the name is because i had the same problem, but once i removed it and reinstalled, everything worked.

I’m on a Mac right now. Option click takes a centre pan knob back to it’s natural position…i think thats what is doing, but can’t get it to snap to centre.

You can’t consolidate to NTFS, but i have no problems with my project files all living on an NTFS drive.

I’ve been moving to and from pc and mac for years. From old versions to new versions, doesn’t seem to matter. My current project is RED based. I transcoded the media to DNX36 for offline, and copied the project to an NTFS drive, and made duplicates of all the media to put on my Mac at home, as well as one of the PC’s at work. I keep using the same NTFS project drive on both boxes, but read the media itself off of the individual boxes.
We have a shared storage system at work, but haven’t had a lot of luck with it and Avid, just final cut. I know there have been some advances along that line in the last couple years though…for those that don’t want to buy from Avid.

Get an Extreme 3d from Blackmagic. Its about 950 bucks, which is actually one of the cheaper “high end” solutions out there. It will work with Resolve, as well as MC 6 for both In and out. It also works with Premiere and Final cut . You will also need a second graphics card for Resolve to run properly.

Jason, I did a very similar video about 15 years ago. A museum install, 4 screens synced up. At points in the show, characters would walk from screen 1 across 2 and 3 and stop on screen 4 The entire piece played off of 4 laser disc ,machines running in tandom. Im afraid my solution was quite simple. The idea of having more than 1 client monitor output wasn’t even thought of. I simply built a 4 layer time line, and put a pic in pic on each one, arranging 4 screens across my monitor. The biggest challenge was getting the overlap from the cameras figured out. For the crossing shots we shot the scene with 4 cameras, but in post they all had to be slightly repo’d to account for overlap, and spacing between the actual monitors. At the end of the process I removed the pic in pics and output 4 separate video tracks. The final installation worked like a charm. Sometimes we look too hard to technology to solve problems that can be done quite simply.

you can use letters in your folder, but only after you’ve got the footage to work. Adding letters makes the folder read only.

I am currently working on a 4 day, 2 camera red shoot. For offline, i put each transcoded media clip into a corresponding MXF numbered folder. 1,2,3 and 4. After the program scanned and rebuilt the data base, i renamed each folder Day1, Day2 Day3 and Day4. The box allowed this because the database was already in place. Any new renders i bring in will now go into a new folder that Avid creates.

you can also map a “find Bin” which will take you match frame from the source monitor, and identify it in the bin it is coming from.

if you have trouble with photoshop, a much more convoluted process could be done within Avid.

Take your logo,add a color corrector,turn it black and white, and stretch the contrast to the point where your logo is now a solid white, and the black background remains black. Export a still, and reimport it and use as a matte for the original logo. Depending on your logo, it can work quite well, but, as i said, a much more convoluted process…unless you don’t have photoshop, then it may become a necessary process.

If it is a simple logo, straight edges, you could also draw a matte with animatte, and simply key it that way.

An inverse luma key may also key out your black background…depends what colors are in your logo.
