Been a FCP guy for years, but I was hoping to try out Media Composer 5.5 to see if a switch was in order. Unfortunately, I’ve yet to get past the startup screen.

Every time I launch I receive a “Failed to intialize audio hardware” pop-up, followed by the dreaded “Segmentation fault” in thread “Main thread” error.

Looking online at various threads, I’ve tried the following:

    – Making sure I have QT Player 10.0
    – Removing the “Caption” plug-in
    – using the “safe” 10.6.8 Combo upgrade
    – trashing prefs, etc.

I have no peripherals plugged in when I launch.

Any help you can lend would be awesome.

Well if you’re trying 5.5 make sure it’s Avid 5.5.3 for OSX 10.6.8. But now MC 6 is out so why not try that. And uninstall old one first.

do you have any outside audio plugins…trying the remember the name…i think the logo is a flower or something like that? They help convert audio from various sources inside the mac…soundflower???

The reason i can’t remember the name is because i had the same problem, but once i removed it and reinstalled, everything worked.

    Glenn —

Where are you located? Because, if you’re ever in the LA area, I owe you a beer.

I looked up some other threads on Soundflower. I went to the cycling74.com site, installed Soundflower and then uninstalled it. After a restart, MC booted up just fine.

Thanks for sending me in the right direction. Chalk another one up for the COW.
