Double-click on clip in timeline
Hello,
I am still figuring out how ‘one’ does things in Avid.
One thing I could not figure out yet is this. I have footage of a hotel and every clip is basically footage of one room. So once a clip is trimmed and in the timeline, in Premiere when I wanted to go back to see what else is in that clip I just double-clicked on the clip in the timeline, which showed me the whole clip with marked area in the source monitor. That way I could easily go to the original clip and take a look at other sections, maybe find better angles and such.
In Avid, I only see the trimmed area of the clip in the source monitor and not the whole clip, so every time I want to see more of the clip I need to go into my bin and go through all the clips and find the one I want to see.
I assume this is just a silly way of me handling this, there must be something better.
As clips have numbers it is kind of annoying to go through the clips and find the right one. I assume this is when naming clips comes in, or putting them in separate folders names after each room? How do you organize stuff?
But isn’t there an easy way with one click to see the whole clip back in the source monitor ?

Open your Command Palette and look for Match Frame. Map it to your keyboard or add it to your button palette in your timeline. Park on the clip you want to load to your source monitor (make the the track is active) and hit Match Frame. It will load that clip into the source monitor and mark an In point at that frame.
If you don’t want to mark an In on the frame you’re matchframing but instead retain the original In point you’ve marked on the clip hit Alt+Matchframe (on a PC – probably Cmd+Matchframe on a Mac). This will load the clip without changing the In point.
Note – if you matchframe and your clip in your timeline is a subclip it will load the subclip. Hit matchframe again to go from the subclip to the original clip.
There’s also a reverse matchframe that matches from the source monitor to your sequence, if you’ve used that frame in your sequence.

you can also map a “find Bin” which will take you match frame from the source monitor, and identify it in the bin it is coming from.
