Couple of other questions…you say it was converted using a nanoflash devices. Are you saying they recorded straight off the camera to a flash drive? If so, what did they record it as?

If they shot XDcam to internal XDcam memory or discs, where is that media?

The cards or Discs that were shot should have either been handed to a DIT, or an editor to do a proper copy to an archive source. There is no need for a third party program to convert the files.

Avid MC can bring your original XDCam material in quite easily. Now if memory serves, on V6.0 you have to go to the settings tab and turn off AMA, relaunch MC, and then you will have an “Import XDCam” option.

I think V6.5 is when they “fixed” this to allow both AMA and XDCam at the same time.

Also, have you tried doing a straight import of the converted files?

Can you get the originals? You should be able to bring the native files in quite easily

Are AMA’ing the red footage, or have you transcoded it?

Is it possible that your machine isn’t strong enough to handle a large timeline of AMA’d footage, with seperate audio? You say you are on software only version, so without any kind of help with the processing, i wonder if thats the problem.

Stig, i have a Z800 running Avid DS 11 and Avid Media Composer 6. I have also installed the light version of Resolve on the box. My DS came with the nvida 4800, and i only have the one graphics card, as for the most part the box is a DS box. I also have a Kona 3 (required by DS) as my main I/O setup. When i first installed Resolve, i had a conflict with the Nvidia driver that DS was expecting, as Resolve was looking for a newer Cuda version to allow Resolve to work. I backed everything up and updated my driver, and everything seems to be working fine. My only problem was feeding a monitor, as Resolve wants Black Magic cards, and DS wants the Kona. I just installed a decklink SDI card to see if i could get the monitoring to work, and not have DS explode on me. I was afraid i was going to have to write some bat file to allow the services to turn on and off during the launching of each program, but to my surprise the two cards seem to be playing fine with each other.

As I said at the top, i only have the one graphics card, so the system is not optimum for Resolve, but i can use it if I want to.

If i didn’t have the DS, and didn’t have the Kona, i could probably fit another graphics card in the box and start playing that way…but that is not in my list of needs. I use DS daily as my main finishing box.

On my home system (Mac) i do have Final cut, Avid, Premiere and Resolve full version all running fine with each other using a Blackmagic Extreme 3d card, an Nvidia 4800 and a GTX 250?…something like that…the basic video card feeding the monitors, and the 4800 running resolves cuda.

could have two versions on the timeline…stacked on top of each other. One darker, or lighter than the other, depending on your needs. Then Animatte/paint effect, circle wipe…should be a few options available to you to be able to create the circle shape, and key one shot over the other.

look in your symphony dmg package. There should be another folder called other installers, and in there somewhere you should see Boris fx and Sorrenson…unless you have a version that didn’t ship with those, but i believe 6.0 and 6.5 both come with them. They are a separate install though

Are you saying you can import the footage, play it in your source monitor, but are having trouble using it on the record side?

You can rename your mxf/1 folder to something else after you are done consolidating. That will put any renders as well as any added footage to a brand new mxf/1 folder, but leave the bulk of the media seperate. If you only do 1 project at a time you can wait till you are done before renaming the folder.

If you rename the folder with letters instead of just numbers it will be read only…and the database will not be update able.
