  • It will skip to the next edit that occurs at the instance where your track selectors are telling it to go. In other words if you have V1 and A1 selected, it is going to look for an edit that occurs at both V1 and A1.

If you only have V1 selected, it will go to your next V1 edit.

If you have V2 selected, and only have edits on V1, it will go to the end of the timeline.
It is the same thing when selecting the Mark in to out button.

    Make sense?

I don’t think your dongle is useless. You should be able to transfer any activation over to a dongle, as long as you are willing to commit that dongle to that license. They may warn you that the dongle will not be available for its old system anymore, but i don’t think that will concern you in this situation.

It is the same as you paying 300 dollars for a dongle and calling support and saying “i want this license on a dongle now!” They should just say “OK- whats the dongle number”

We do it all the time. Pc to Mac 6.0 to 6.5 and back. The bigger problem happens when 1 box has a set of plugins that the other box doesn’t.

Keep it to a basic offline, and you’ll be fine.

  • I think he is saying that avid’s timeline is not showing the existence of a V8 track, not that he can’t see the video on the track.

Maybe kill your site settings. I don’t think you can hide a track…unless it was made so small with the control /resize with the mouse that it is there but you can’t see it.

Hold your ctrl button at the gap between V7 and V9 and try expanding one or both of them out. Maybe it is somehow just really really small?

not infront of my box, but can’t you draw a box to select all the clips in question and either remove effect or event just the delete button?

June 5, 2013 at 1:50 pm in reply to: What way are you handling tapeless acquisition?

Shoot, transfer to drive (2) First priority back at the base is archive to material to LTO tape (2). Store 1 on site, store 1 off site. If you can handle 3 lto’s of each project you are extremely well covered.

We always try to have two hard drives available at the shop for the footage. Nothing worse than having the drive die during the edit, and having to wait for the restore from LTO. For an extra hundred bucks, we have a backup drive to work from as well.

LTO 5 tapes are around 40 bucks a piece, and store 1.5 tbs. LTO 6 is just out now, holding 2.5 tb, but right now costing 3 times as much for the media.

May 30, 2013 at 1:57 pm in reply to: Up Down Cross Converter .. work flow using fcp

    from the Blackmagic website description:

Use the cross converter to convert 720p to 1080i or 1080i to 720p so you can edit once and master in SD, 720p and 1080i video.

You appear to be trying to go from 1080p to1080i, which is not listed in their specs.

You might be better off trying to do the whole thing from within finalcut. Audio sync will become an issue i would imagine.

Sorry Daniel, looks like my last reply didn’t go through.

If you want to send some files, i’d be happy to see if they work on my systems.

I would output the reference movie and download mpeg streamclip. Its free, and will allow you to force a frame size on the quicktime it creates. I’m actually doing an SD project right now that is all 16:9 and has many quicktime approvals going out. I use reference and Squeeze, but there is no reason Streamclip won’t do the same thing.
