Why not ask the post facility, they should be able to answer your question. If they work with Apple Color you could just bring them your FCP project but I’m guessing that’s not the case.

Hi Don,

Yeah, I’m looking for side by side or 2 separate files, with 2 or 3 seconds of motion that I could check out on my HD monitor.

I’ve seen Michael’s write ups and positive comments but it would be helpful to see some actual footage and how much of an improvement it makes. Seems like if it was a huge improvement CD should have this on their website, no?

Hi Barry,

Looks similar to the previous shot, I’m mostly concerned about the blockiness in the greens. This could be due to shooting with the standard profile. Personally, I’ve shot at -3db with a customized PP and got very clean greens. I’d be curious to see the footage off the SXS card rather than captured through the Matrox but I’m guessing it looks the same. The noise in the blacks that you’re noticing is in line with what I’d expect to see shooting at 0db.

Hi Barry,

The noise in the green looks too blocky, the image from the EX should be much cleaner (unless you put the Magic Bullet “HVX 200 look” filter on there afterwards). Not sure what would cause this, if its the way you captured it (the frame rate is a red flag as Olof pointed out) or the camera.

No 35mm adapter or color correction, right?

Hey Rich,

Like I said earlier ignoring the merits of how you transcoded to DVCPRO your method is a lot better than many of the XDCAM workflows I here about. People are treating there original camera data as tapes but are neglecting to make copies of the transcoded quicktimes once they go through XDCAM transfer in FCP.

They often don’t have backups of their media drives (still very common) & if something happens to their media drive in the middle of the project and they renamed the clip names in XDCAM transfer (or even worse made subclips) they’ll have to waste time retranscoding the clips again in XDCAM transfer and then have to manually re-online the project which could be time-consuming at least and a nightmare at worse.

As long as you feel everything was converted properly that sounds OK but seems like you’re adding some extra time and steps by converting to DVCPRO then having the editor re-digitizing, couldn’t you just hand off the converted footage to the editor on a drive along with the tape?
