It took me a couple of passes to read his chock full of info posting myself. I just wanted to try to help clarify the aja io workflow for the original poster.
Cheers!

Hi Michael,
I think Andy means to go out of the camera’s SDI out into the SDI input of the I/O HD which can create the Prores files. The I/O interfaces to the macbook pro via firewire, I don’t think he’s suggesting connecting the camera to the firewire.

Was that zoomout from the closeup there to illustrate a focus issue with the camera, or was that just autofocus?

Just to clarify, Peter would be able to use ProRes on his current computer, he just wouldn’t be able to capture to ProRes without an intel mac, and might not need to upgrade depending on his post needs if he goes with the HPX.

Sounds like you’re going to have to work around the problem then unfortnately. Hopefully it’s not the camera, but this is one of the reasons not to use 83 minute tapes if possible.

I’ve seen this problem with the situations I described, but not with one clip. It gives you the message on all the tapes? Did you reuse tapes or use low quality tapes? Are you using the same camera you shot on to capture? What kind of drive are you capturing to?
In any case you could still edit the material on a 29.97, though unless you have some other material that’s already at 23.98. It will look essentially the same.

Try capturing a small clip, just a couple of seconds (after the camera has started to record a shot but before it stopped) with the adv. pulldown removal setting and see if that works.
Also, its very important when shooting in 24pa to hit “rec check” on the dvx if the camera has gone into standby mode after you stop recording so the record head is advanced to a usable timecode (or when the camera has been paused a while in general). Otherwise you might have to capture clips that don’t include multiple starts and stops.
Also, using capture now can give you the error you are reporting, are you using that or logging individual clips?

Sure, I want to save people the hassle I went through. Since it’s a power issue the card may work with display setups that don’t use the older ADC cinema displays which draw power from the G5- like with a dual link 30″ or maybe an ADC to dvi adapter.

I mentioned this on the Color forum, there seems to be some problems with the re-released x800t, so test it quickly in case you need to return it:
