Is it possible that the Duplicator modified your position for the Layer Break? For instance, say you have a 3-hour movie, and you put the original LB at the 2-hour mark. Is it possible that the Duplicating machine put the LB at the 1.5 hour mark? (I’m just using these numbers as an example…)

I just wasn’t sure if the OP’s version of DVDA would allow the burn from folders — I’ve only got the more recent versions of DVDA 3 / 4 / 4.5

If you only need to make a complete copy of the previously authored DVD, then you can copy the Folders to your hard drive, and then use software to burn a copy from the DVD Folders (you don’t always have to copy them to your hard drive first).

Perhaps the latest version of DVDA Studio will let you burn from DVD Folders (they do have a Trial available…)

I remember having an issue getting this to work. I loaded one of the template menus, and then opened that up in Photoshop and noticed certain naming standards for each layer. So perhaps you simply need to rename some layers to get it to work?

Try this:

1) Prepare the DVD Folders on your hard drive
2) Burn with the latest version of IMGBURN

I got a similar error the other day. I saved the project as a new name, then it was able to build the DVD Folders. It might or might not work for you — but could be worth a shot…

In Version 2.0 — if I click on the menu (not a button), there is a BASIC tab on the right side, on that tab is a radio button for either 4:3 or 16:9 — do you have 4:3 selected?

Well, depending on the DVD Structure, you could author a quick menu, then replace the existing with the new one (using something like DVD Remake or PGCedit).

But the extraction approach and re-author is more straight forward…

The latest versions of DVD MovieFactory allow you to Import from DVD — which version do you have?

What is the resolution of your current DVD? If it’s anything but 720×480/576 (NTSC/PAL), then I believe Encore will re-encode (someone correct me if I am wrong). In other words, some DVD Recorders use 704×480, but Encore will re-encode to be 720×480 (I do not know if Encore CS3 does this).

If you find you do have a resolution that forces Encore to always re-encode, you might be better off converting to a more edit-friendly format (dv .avi as you have suggested). Then encoding properly for Encore (try to minimze the number of re-encodes).
