What authoring package is being used? Different packages might have the feature of “Stories” (as already mentioned), or perhaps “Playlists” or something of that nature.

there are ways to post-edit an authored DVD to do what you want, but that’s a bit more complicated…

How long of a menu loop are you trying to have for your DVD?

    It’s as Noah says 🙂

Just make sure your burning software knows how to properly place the files so that they play properly in your set-top dvd player…

Unfortunately, SD-DVD does not allow for continuous audio through menu changes (that’s with any SD-DVD Authoring software).

What software are you using to author your DVD?

Also, are you letting the DVD play to the end of Track-1 (by itself, without hitting NEXT on your remote)?

    Hi Tom,

Which version of DVD Architect do you have? Is it the STUDIO version, or the professional version? Also, what number is it (i.e. 2.0, 3.0, 4.x, etc…)

Some of the STUDIO versions have builtin video tutorials that walk you through the process.

    Hi,

Do you have alot of video menus? Or several long-playing video menus?

Check if you have mistakenly assigned your video assets as menus (instead of video titles).

[Brad Goodman] “He wants me to put each of the tapes onto a single SD DVD. That is, about three hours of content per DVD.”

Can the “single” SD DVD be a dual-layer disc (DVD-9)? If so, then that should fit nicely.

Even if the client wants Single-layer (DVD5), it might not look too bad if you have an excellent quality source video, and the subject matter doesn’t have much movement (as I suspect is the case with the lectures).

The best thing to do is to actually try a small section encoded at the proper bitrates to fit the ~3hours onto your target discs. I would use AC3 audio, and considering the low bitrate you will have to use for DVD5, I might even try Half-D1 resolution (352×480 for NTSC).

To offer any advice would require some more info on your part. Some things that would be useful (but not limited to) :

    1) what is your source format
    2) how do you capture (what format captured to)
    3) what is the duration of your finished/edited video
    4) what type of edits do you do (straight cuts, complex overlays, heavy titling, etc…)
    5) how is the time allocated (5 hours to edit, 3 hours to convert, 2 hours to burn) — I am just making those times up. But if you can list your workflow and appox. times for each stage, perhaps it might be easy to identify some things that can be improved upon
    6) do you render “multiple” times during the editing stage (or only on final render before authoring to dvd
    7) what equipment do you have (PC configuration, burner make/model, etc…)

The more details you can provide regarding that 10 hours, the better off folks are to offering some hints/guidelines that might reduce that time…

    Regards,
    George

  • How did you burn the project to disc? The folders/files have to burned properly for dvd-video, so just making sure you burned the files in their proper order…

    George
