Changing fonts doesn’t help. I don’t have a handy way to post a still.

I keep clones of the last 3 versions of my boot partition (every update or addition), so I’ll go back to the system config when the renders were cleaner and then see what has changed. If I find something that isn’t exclusive to my setup I’ll post it here.

It doesn’t help that these titles are red (legal, barely), big (48 pt), bold and have capital Z in them. Can you say torture test?

    Thanks for the replies.

The direct answers are – I’ve been using the tips in the link for a decade or more, 10 bit uncompressed won’t really help much when it has to go back to DV tape, and the text isn’t scaled or repositioned in motion tab.

System specs are in my profile.

Like most of you I have been on FCP since v1, so I’m pretty familiar. I ran a dozen searches before I posted, hoping to find something like a plugin that has to be removed and reloaded. Again. Or a bug fix I had missed perhaps.

This blocking is about double or more what I usually see with Title 3D on DV projects that go to the client on DV masters. It’s never great but mostly not awful.

I’m also seeing that month old renders I made with Motion from the same opening sequence that’s being reused in this show had about 1/3 the blocking I’m getting today, rendered in Motion or FCP. Same story in LiveType. That is comparing old and new .mov clips back to back on a scratch timeline.

I probably have a conflict with some plugin or update, or new scope software or … Off to remove stuff, test, put that stuff back, etc. Blah.

    Thanks for the suggestions though.

(Why is there a “d” in the word friDge but not in refrigerator?)

I think it was originally a contraction of Frigidaire®.

Looks like a re-patch for color grading with the MXO2 if I want see HD on the JVC 20″ nearly reference broadcast LCD or MXO2 out (will there be a bypass? hmm?) to edit on 15 & 30 screens?

Not quite as easy as my Kona card, but close. Of course, we are guessing what the MXO2 will really do when they ship.

Still no free lunch, but lunch seems to be getting less expensive.

Thanks for all the input everyone.

Nate – Will the $1,999 MacBook Pro not connect to my 30″ monitor? Apple spec shows it will drive the 30″. Too much load for the graphics ram?

SxS transfer is the main reason for MacBook Pro, if it’s also is a better edit station my G5 may get retired to render station work.

I recall you had a G5 DP2.0, do you have a new MacBook Pro 2.4 now?

  • I don’t have an XDCAM camera, I only have files on a drive. I think something may have been set wrong when these files were transfered and I would be surprised if the originals still exist.

If I can’t get XDCAM transfer to see them as EX files I may just have to scale them.

Thanks for all of the input.

  • “OK. Duplicate a clip.
Go to the properties and change the Aspect ratio to 1920×180. ”

I have tried that in QT. It creates a file that is 1888×1062 no matter what window I use to change to 1920×1080. Aspect is correct in QT but always shows 1888×1062 in the info widow.

Imported to FC the properties show 1920×1080, but some artifacting is back.

Trying to export clip from FC to EX codec (transcode XDCAM HD to XDCAM EX) now. Slow though.

Finished – Plays correct aspect ratio and info shows 1920 x 1080 in QT and FC, sharper than scaling in FC Motion Tab but artifacting remains.

It still seem the best fix would be to get XDCAM Transcode to use the EX codec rather than the HD codec to open EX files. But how?

Later I will boot with an older archived OS/FCS/QT, install XDCAM Transfer and see if that helps.
