I’m guessing you are correct. Just hoping someone on this forum knows software or a secret handshake that can realign the broken GOPs to give some bit of playable, editable footage.

Even if that works, they are probably still hosed. Who wants a few grabs out of a full day of presentations? But, hey, I said I would ask.

I would have given directions to record this properly if they asked in advance. All they have now is 10 broken 4GB .mov files that will not play in QT, WMP, VLC, FCP or Vegas.

So, for now the question is – Is it possible to restore/fix/repair these corrupted .mov fragments of their full day video shoot?

  • Great. I’m capturing 65 hours of live video over firewire to 4 Firestore drives and Vegas on this laptop (ran out of Firestore drives). No tapes involved.

Thanks to everyone for all the help.

  • Oh. Thanks.

Seems a bit different than Johns advise, but it is working.

The camera now shows up in Vegas when I click Project/Capture or the Capture icon.
But the dialog box is called Sony Video Capture 6.0- Default. This opens on Integrated Camera and my ugly mug. On the Video tab I can select Microsoft DV Camera and VCR.

With this setting I can capture live DV video from both cameras and the files are dropped into All Media in Vegas M S HD P 11. The files are AVI with 48K stereo and seem to work.

But this doesn’t seem like the right capture method. What do I try next.

  • I use Win 7 occasionally, Win XP frequently, Mac mostly.

I have found a thread to update driver to Legacy. Now I see the camera. Thanks.

November 25, 2012 at 5:22 pm in reply to: ProRes 422 won’t import.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will not have access to the Premier suite until Monday, but I opened and inspected some clips on my FCP home system.

The files in the folder labeled ProRes 422 are actually XDCAM HD422 50Mbs .MOV files. This just might not be a ProRes problem.

I have downloaded XDCAM Viewer to a card and will install it Monday. Any other suggestions?
