I like skeumorphism … i don’t think another type of GUI would make much sense. faders and dials are actually a very effective way to change a setting because you can instantly see what your upper and lower limits are.

The Warp Stabilizer in After effects CS6 is by far the best stabilizer I’ve used. I’ve tried Motion, ProDad, SmoothCam, lock and load… it beats all of them

I’m on this same train… making the move from FCP7 to PP… The only plugin I’ve ported over is Magic Bullet… although it does have a strange bug of not using the size of the clip in the timeline. If i have a 720P clip in a 1080P timeline, in FCP7, it would display the clip as 1080P in MBLooks… in PP, it displays at 720P… not a huge deal, but a difference.
Noise Industries would be the ideal for PP. don’t think it works yet?

CINEMA 4D is going to be your best bet. There are many resources for it out there and it has good integration with after effects.

so would this be the answer for T or “select all tracks forward”?
i miss the basics too… just give me a timeline and a way to edit in classic mode and i think 95% of complaints would be answered.

sounds a lot like the old “Choose Your Own Adventure” books… I see what the storyline is meant to do.
Although in many people’s work, myself included, when i do corporate work, it is less about story structure and much more about compositing and arranging layers of video together. So i might have a couple layers stacked together including video, Photoshop layers, text generators, etc… all which may have transitions between them. I don’t see that this new Timeline is really efficient for this, after all, tracks, are basically the same as photoshop layers… if you told me that photoshop Cs 6 would get rid of layers, i think you would have a lot of people questioning why?
I think in the future they should really try to make this timeline setup one of a couple options. A classic mode would probably ease peoples fears about this new timeline and allow people to work efficiently in another way.

is there a way to have it automatically add clips to the timeline in the “broken apart” state?

Seriously, if you haven’t purchased it and are thinking “oh it will be cool, it can’t be that bad”. Just hold that thought, and hold onto your credit card for about a month. Get back to work and do some projects. Go hug your spouse and your kids. Look at the trees. Consider the heavens. You’ll be in a much better place that those of us in the thick of this… thing.
LOL. That’s probably the best advice I’ve heard! love it!

Just look at the majority. People are not happy. If this were a couple comments about a missing feature here and there… ok you got a point. The problem is, we’re being forced to work a certain way and a lot of the customization we were able to do in FCP1-7 is no longer available and there is uncertainty if it ever will be.
I love the new features, but did they really have to fundamentally change the way a timeline works? There’s nothing wrong with using tracks, why get rid of that?
