  • That’s exactly what i’m saying… Why are we trying to overcomplicate editing? it’s all about linear timing and juxtaposition. Relationships?? What does that even mean?!!??

And this is supposed to be a better way to work? I’m confused. Wouldn’t that become increasingly sloppy? I’m still trying to wrap my head around what is the best way to organize yourself when you depend on multiple applications (AE,PS,IL, Protools, C4D) to finish a video. We all have learned how to organize projects at the Finder level, i never really heard anyone complain about that.

I was perfectly fine the way things were organized before. Still don’t understand why they tried to fix something that was never really broken.

Maybe I’m missing something, but i never heard of this being on any editors FCP wish list. Organizing sequences in projects makes sense to a lot of people. I like being able to organize my bins however i want to…

Can i drag a folder of images into my events? or stock footage from another drive? it just seems that what used to take 1 single step now takes a ton more time!

  • it’s called f’n BS… you can’t turn it off.

Apparently in all the user requests to Apple on FCP, messing with something that wasn’t broken was at the top.

  • i’ve been using FCP since v 1.2 and this new one is just throwing me for a loop. It has great features, but is fundamentally SO DIFFERENT, that I can’t even consider it the same program anymore. In fact, I’ve spent half the day looking for different post options. Avid, Premiere all look very tempting. It’s really unfortunate, but they WERE the industry standard for a long time. With this release, they are going to lose a lot of customers and have opened the door for new standards. Frankly, going to stick to FCP 7 for a couple more months but then try to transition over to AVID.

I hate not being able to organize my media how I WANT IT. I hate not being able to turn on and off tracks how I WANT. the fact it, FCP 1-7 made it easy for everyone to create their OWN way to work. This new version seems to want to force everyone to work a certain way and that is just a step in the wrong direction in my opinion.

The last Color Corrector 3-way filter applied to any clip is converted into a Primary In correction in Color. When you send the project back to Final Cut Pro, all Color Corrector 3-way filters will have been removed from your project.

i found it very easy to use 3 way color corrector in FCP for my primary color, then send to COLOR for all the secondary color correction. it’s a really fantastic tool that you can really delve deep into.

August 1, 2009 at 4:09 am in reply to: FCS 3 upgrade NOT worth $299…

i think there’s a variety of improvements, its no doubt better than FCP6… after all its an upgrade for a reason.

i think some people have felt frustrated because of the long interval between fcp6 and 7. i myself thought that with so much time, surely there would be more improvements. however, i do think its well worth 299.

i don’t notice improved “render management” though, am i missing something, could someone clue me into what is new and improved here?
    thanks!

i kinda feel cheated that keyframing hasn’t improved since version 1.

it would also be nice to darken and lighten the interface to fit with different room lighting conditions.

this update definitely falls in line with what we’ve grown to expect out of .5 upgrades, not new versions.
