I would say there are a couple of other serious advantages in favor of PPro:

-Rendering performance: Vegas is just slow to render – even V.6 which is improved. PPro on my dual Opteron is very quick to render.

-Integration: The Adobe suite offers some serious capabilities when you use them together. I find the flow is powerful.

-Stronger 3rd party support: There are just more H/W and S/W options for PPro. Vegas is doing a lot better but still not as widespread as Adobe.

There are more but these are the broader issues.

Also, both of these MBs have built-in firewire of course.

There are several good options. THe top 2 in my opinion are the DFI Ultra D board or the Asus A8N. Both have an SLI option but it’s not clear whether that tech will ever help the video world.

FWIW I just built a dual Opteron system and PPro and AE really fly on it.

May 4, 2005 at 3:00 pm in reply to: DV-25 and DV-50 quality comparison

[eLeventy] “If my math is correct: the HD gets the same amount of data per pixel as DV25 ( in 1080i),
so quality should be similar to DV25, but in HD. Math will differ when using other HD( 720p, …)”

This is why HDV is such a bad idea in my mind. I’ll take the HVX200 over anything HDV any day of the week…except sunday – that’s my day off 😉

Great test BTW I am probably just as excited abotu DV50 as I am about the HD capabilities of this cam.

  • What about support? Can you imagine the enormous task it would be to try to support all the various configurations? The advantage of “Mac only” is they have a controlled environment in which to refine and innovate.

  • Honestly, there is no motivation for Apple to do that. FCP sells G5s plain and simple.

Don’t worry though. THe G5/FCP combo is second to none.

I have to assume they are at the mercy of IBM. The G5 dual-core concepts were only shown a little while ago. I believe AMD and Intel have been working on them a lot longer. Honestly, that is why I have started becoming more serious about supporting both platforms. I will not abandon the mac as I love the software and I think the G5 is a great system. Having said that, I am building dual Opteron systems to handle some more of my CPU intensive tasks like 3D and compositing and then using the mac for FCP.

The fact is, OS X is a great bit of software as is practically all of Apple’s s/w tools. I celebrate what they do and appreciate it.

This is no suprise ofcourse. It was the same for the last rev. The enty level dual was dumbed down the same.

It still makes a great machine for a graphic artist or even a DV-only guy.
