Hi Renato,

Can you post a screenshot of the specs of your source media (using the free Mediainfo application in text mode)? Your source media doesn’t happen to be ProRes is it?

Also, how many snapshots can you get before the crash?

Note: I think Vegas Pro likes .png still format better than .jpg (better quality), so if you are going to use these snapshots in a Vegas projects, you may want to change the ‘save format’ from .jpg to .png.

John Rivera, select Pan and Crop, click on the ‘Mask’ option at the bottom under ‘Position’, then at the left upper area there is a gear icon. Hoover over that and it will say ‘Show Properties’, it’s a toggle on/off…….

In addition to Bruce’s excellent suggestions, instead of muting the audio with an audio volume envelope, you could use the bleep trick, without using a ‘bleep’, which most often is to hide foul language, rather use some other smoother sound effect. Rather than use any number of FX modifications to the name section, I would just use a pleasant smooth sounding, sound effect, maybe birds chirping or waterfall sounds.

Another simple, but effective trick that is fast and easy, cut the audio just in front of the name and just in back. Then on the section with the spoken name, right click and select ‘Reverse’. If you have any ambient sound in the recording it should hold, but the spoken name now is unintelligible. However, remember using this trick, anyone being slick can reverse that section again and then the name is once again intelligible!

If you do a full reset of Vegas Pro and use the option to delete the application cache, this should correct any “glitching” that may be coming from Vegas. If that doesn’t cure the issue, I would say your Vegas is fine.

If your video source media runs fine without the motion blur FX and it renders fine and plays back fine, that would eliminate your video event.

If you have used the motion blur before this project with success, it would appear the FX is fine on your system.

Couple questions….

Is this FX the BCC Motion Blur?
Have you used it before?
Are you on Sony Vegas Pro or Magix Vegas Pro?
Is your Vegas up to date on the latest build?

Some observations……

On my system, using Magix 15 (384) and the BCC Motion Blur (trial), on a 4K 24p projects, the first preview of a Dynamic RAM preview, it runs super slow 1 or 2 frames at a time, very annoying! On subsequent playbacks, it runs at Full (Best) preview at 24 fps smooth. I have no explanation as why it runs so slow through on the 1st preview and then runs fine on subsequent previews!

I have no problem viewing smoothly using a ‘Render to New Track (after the source track has been muted), or full render (which is basically the same thing). So I am puzzled by “And when I render the clip with motion blur (I did it as a test to see if maybe the pre-render was just glitching…) it is very glitchy, and ugly still.”

HI Sam,

If you haven’t already, before I spent any more time running this down, I would do a full program reset…..

While holding down the ‘Shift’+’Ctrl’ keys, double left click on the Vegas Pro desktop icon. In the window, check the option to ‘Delete all application cache data’. This will reset Vegas to it’s original default settings and configuration and delete the application cache, which often causes Vegas to behave strangely.

If that doesn’t fix it, I would go to whatever FX you applied before the missing FX and turn them off, one at a time, render, look at results! Depending on how complex your project is, this could be time consuming, obviously.

Because you can render out the missing FX and it works, it would point to me something before it is messing things up.

Regardless, whatever information you can provide about your system and FX chain you are using, might help other members point to the cause or suggest a fix.

Within Vegas, here are some thoughts you may or may not have tried……

Reduce the preview window quality.

Increase the Dynamic Ram Preview from the default of 200, to maybe 5,000, then mark an area in the track you want to preview smoother, and then ‘Build Dynamic RAM Preview’ it is ‘Shift+B’. That probably will not perform much better, but may, it’s worth a try.

Similar to above except ‘Ctrl+M’ will render to a New Track and be inserted into a new track above. Mute the original track and it should then run smoother in those areas. Select a render format and template that will provide a descent preview quality, but run smoother and take the least time to render……you find the best format and template and custom settings with a bit of trial and error.

Render your project out to an intermediate something like Cineform (.avi), or Avid DNxHD (.mov) and view it in a 2nd instance of Vegas Pro or an added track in your current project. I of course don’t know how complex your project is, but these are just a few thoughts.

HI Mark,

Have you done a full reset recently? This procedure will often correct for some strange behavior in Vegas Pro.

On the desktop, hold down Shift+Ctrl keys while double clicking on the Vegas Pro desktop icon. Select “Delete all cached application data”, then “Yes”. This will start Vegas Pro with all default settings and delete the cached data, which is often the culprit to Vegas Pro behaving oddly. Just an idea that may help.
