  • Mike, would I be correct assuming you have already performed a full reset, hold down ‘Ctrl+Shift’ while double left clicking on the Vegas Pro desktop icon, then check the box ‘Delete all cached application data’, then left click on ‘Yes’?

    Hi Michael,

m2t is not lossless, it is a compressed delivery format. You will loose a bit of quality when rendering to m2t (bluray) but if only once you will probably not notice a difference. If you want to render to something that is visually lossless than you may want to use something like Sony XAVC. The files are large in size to store, but you can render several generations without a noticeable loss of quality and Sony Vegas Pro likes this format and should preview smoothly.

There are also many other options to render to an intermediate file that are visually lossless such as Cineform or Avid (need to download and install the codec) or you could render to Uncompressed, but Uncompressed make huge size files and do not preview well unless your PC has a bunch of horsepower.

January 11, 2019 at 4:55 pm in reply to: Anyone not have stability issues with Vegas?

    Hi Tim,

I already switched to DaVinci Resolve 15, but am still tinkering (testing so to speak) with Vegas Pro 16 build 352. It seems much more stable than the initial v15 release. You use the term ‘power user’ which doesn’t really explain what your projects are like. I have loaded hundreds of mixed source media files, various Vegas Stabilize comparison to Mercalli 4 plugin, applied LUTs, a bunch of color correction. I have not done much composting or multicam.

So not knowing how my work compares to yours, it could very well be I have not hit the issues you have (in build 352), but I hit enough issues I still do not trust it so will stay with Resolve for now, but I still want to keep my foot in the fire so to speak with Vegas.

    I’m running Win 7, i7 6800K 6 core 64 gb, AMD R9 390 8 gb

Andrew, can you provide some addition details about your project? Using Mediainfo (in text mode) post a screenshot of your source media specs, a screenshot of your Project settings, and a screenshot of the render template settings you used. This will further help us to make suggestion for improved quality.

    Hi Stevenson,

My suggestion is to post your issues at the ( https://www.moviestudiozen.com/forum/index ) Movie Studio Zen forums. Derek covers all Vegas Pro and Movie Studio products and he uses OBS to record his tutorials and I’m sure he can provide some direct experience solutions.

  • I don’t think you will experience any change in editing without the so4compundplug. I disabled it a while back when folks were talking about it just to see and couldn’t determine any difference for me, but I wasn’t having any problems, so changed it back. There could be some source media that will not work without it, but I do not know what that would be. If disabling it works for all your source media then I would say, for now, you are golden, but in the future if you acquire different source media that has problems, the first thing I would do is enable it to see if it then works with that new media. Does that makes sense?

Convert your source media to h264 (or something else Vegas likes) using maybe Handbrake or any number of other conversion programs, ffmpeg, AnyVideoConverter, Sony Catalyst Brouse, etc.

Ricardo, if would certainly help if you provide as much information as you can about your system and project so others may be able to assist you in a solution. What do you use to record your source media? What are the settings for the recording? Use the free app Mediainfo in text mode to provide a screenshot of the source media spec’s. A screenshot of your project settings and render template settings.

Try ‘Recording format’ = mp4, ‘Encoder’ = x264 and ‘Rate control’ = vbr

  • Yes the Graphic Card (GPU).

Alberto have you compared the spec’s between the Hero 4 and other media files that do not work. I use Mediainfo in text mode. I wouldn’t think there would that much of a difference between your two GoPro cameras, but I’m also not familiar with them (I have a Hero 3). If the resolution between the Hero’s are the same, the footage should be the same and act the same in Vegas. Are you shooting 1080 in the Hero 4 and 4K in the Hero 7 perhaps?

I’m curious as to why you are making proxies from 1080 source media (other than you did it just to test)? Does your PC not play back 1080p footage smoothly?

I’m still thinking the GPU driver may be the issue. I’m running a AMD R9 390 GPU 8 GB card. If I update to the latest driver it will not support VCE rendering in Magix AVC. So, I keep it rolled back to a previous version. Certainly not similar to your issue, just an example of sometimes an older driver works better than the latest. It is difficult for Magix (or any NLE developer) to keep up instantly with the rapid driver changes GPU card manufacturers make to appease the gaming market.
