If rolling back the display driver makes no improvement, I’m kind of shooting in the dark here…..

I would follow Dimitrios’s suggestion and update to build 307. If that makes no improvement I would update to the latest build 352.

You may also want to disable the so4compoundplug. Follow the instructions provided in this thread https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/avc-xavc-s-issues-in-vp15-try-disabling-so4compoundplug-dll–108345/

Although this is for Vegas 15, it may shed some light on your issue and you can simply enable it if disabling doesn’t make an improvement.

I would start by doing a full reset of Vegas, while holding down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys, left double click on the desktop icon to start Vegas, in the pop-up window check the box ‘Delete all cached application data’, then left click on ‘Yes’. Go to ‘Options’, ‘Preferences’, ‘Video’ tab, and change ‘GPU acceleration of video processing:’ to ‘Off’, then ‘Apply’ and ‘OK’. Then I would close Vegas, and power down my computer. Start up my computer and restart Vegas as normal, I would run no other program or services, just Vegas.

I would create a new project. Add a media file that you know worked in the past and create a proxy. If that worked I would add a media file from the previous problem project and create a proxy. If that worked I would close this new test project and load up the previous problem project. If it had the same errors, I would go back to the test project and continue loading media files from the problem project one at a time, creating proxies until I found the media file that may be causing the problem.

If none of that worked, I would role back the display adapter driver to a previous version. and then try the test process again.

Along the way I may think of something else to try in an attempt to isolate the issue, and along the way I would keep good notes of what and when I tried things.

Also, are you on the latest build of Vegas Pro? Are you a long time user of Vegas Pro or is this your first project? Can you post screenshots of the source media (using Mediainfo in text mode), as well as, project settings and render settings you may have used in the problem project. The more information you provide, the more likely someone will provide a path to the solution.

I would test it with whichever and if no success, try the other way. Once in a while I get the crash on closing as well. As I was done with the project at that point, I never pursued why.

I like it for my style of editing as it is similar to Resolve, however I think there should be an option to turn the scrub off, as well as, make the scrub in/out points dependent on keyboard shortcut keys like ‘I’ and ‘O’.

Hi Michael,

I suspicious of ‘File 1’. This is what I would do as a quick experiment…..Start Vegas and load the ‘problem’ project. Make sure ‘Auto-Ripple’ is turned off. Then remove all the events on any of the tracks of ‘File 1’. Remove ‘File 1’ from the ‘Project Media’ bin. Of course every place that ‘File 1’ was on a track is going to be black now, but that is OK for this test. Then save this project with a different name such as simply ‘Temp Test’. Close the project and shut down Vegas, start Vegas and load the new project ‘Temp Test’. If this project acts normal, we have narrowed it down to ‘File 1’.

‘File 1’ is ‘Variable Frame Rate’ and Vegas often doesn’t like variable frame rate source media. If this is the case, there are ways to get around this, but first we need to determine if ‘File 1’ is the cause. Even though a previous version of Vegas had no problem with this variable frame rate file, doesn’t mean that Vegas Pro 15 will not, and this test should quickly determine that.

Hi Michael,

Currently there is no way to turn this feature (Hoover Scrub) off. However there are a couple ways to ease your pain.

1. Click on the clip in the Project Media bin to highlight it, press the ‘Enter’ key and the clip will be added to the track in the timeline at the cursor location.

2. Double left click on the clip in the Project Media bin and it will be added to the cursor location in the track.

3. Press and hold the left mouse button anywhere on the clip in the Project Media bin, then drag it straight down until you see the pointer change to a circle with a line through it and then drag in any direction after that to the location on the track you wish the clip to be added.

NOTE: When initially dragging the clip from the Project Media bin you don’t have to drag it straight down, but straight enough to avoid the scrub feature. The angle down is about between 4:40 and 7:30 of a clock face. Hope this helps.

Hi Michael, have you tried to turn off ‘GPU acceleration of video processing’ in ‘Options’, ‘Preferences’, ‘Video’ tab?

Can you post the specs of your source media in those old projects that are causing the red screen? Use ‘Mediainfo’ in ‘Text’ mode to post the results.

On the top of the preview widow are several icons. From the left is the setting cog, then dual screen, then FX. The next one is the FX bypass icon, click on it and your fx adjustments will show realtime in the preview window.
