This does address your specific question, however!

I have successfully moved to Resolve 15, which is doing everything I need and much more. With that said I have also keep my foot in the fire with Vegas Pro from VP12, through the current VP16 and with the latest build 361 have had very few stability issues, considering because I am producing in Resolve now, my work with Vegas has just been to support others and a few friends. So I am just tinkering with it. That will go on for a while, but when they introduce VP17 I most likely will not upgrade.

I would assume you have been doing a lot of research and trying various settings to get VP16 to work smoother for you. I see in another post here, you are asking about systems specs contemplating a hardware upgrade. As I’m sure you are aware, the development of upgrades, like VP16, are based more on the current class of CPU’s and GPU’s, and as the features grow, so does the requirement for hardware, and sooner or later our older hardware systems just will not cut it to run the latest and greatest software.

Although my current system (see the specs in my profile) seems quite adequate for my current purposes with both Vegas Pro and Resolve, It is about 3-4 years old technology and I will most likely be looking at another upgraded system with 1-2 years.

So I’m wondering if your issues with VP16 are with VP16 specifically or could they also have much to do with your computer and if you go to Premiere will it perform well or also show signs of straining on you old box?

I’m sure you have considered all this, just offering an opinion which may or may not be of any value. On the other hand if you haven’t already posted your issues with Vegas Pro here and would like some opinions, as you know, they are at least worth everything you pay for them!!

Hi Scott,

The oldest version I have is Sony Movie Studio 13. If your PNG file has a transparent alpha background, putting it on the top track, it should automatically work so you see through the background to the track event below.

Right click on the PNG event, select Properties, then the General tab. What is listed in the Alpha channel? If not select ‘Straight (unmatted)’ to see if that helps, or one of the Premultiplied options.

David, there is another option which may or may not fit into your workflow. It’s the ‘Swap Video Files’ option in the Project Media bin. If you are not familiar with this, it will swap all the clips in the Project Media bin, from the same folder, with clips of the same name in a different folder, all in batch mode, and keep the timeline edits.

This appear to take a bit of folder descipline and perhaps this is most appropriate for users who want to manage their own proxy files, rather than use the build proxy feature of Vegas, or perhaps for swapping out intermediates for originals.

Right click on a clip in the Project Media bin and select ‘Swap Video Files’, then in the directory window point to the folder with the replacement files.

Bob, have you tried the Intel QSV render format option, and what are the results? I don’t see anything in your source media that would have caused it, it is constant frame rate, which is good. And, I happy to see you have the pixel format set to 8 bit (not 32 bit).

Also, have you done a full reset of Vegas? Hold down the ‘Ctrl+Shift’ keys, then double left click on the Vegas desktop shortcut. check the box ‘Delete all cached application data’, and then left click on ‘Yes’. This will reset Vegas Pro to it’s installation default settings and delete the pesky build up cached application data, which sometimes causes Vegas to do strange things.

When I have had problems, or read problems that the render is different than the preview (and the preview is running a project properties speeds), most often it is linked to the GPU processing in either an FX during preview or the render acceleration process. Not always, but usually.

If you start Vegas and load your project, then load another instance of Vegas, go back to your project instance and select ALL in the timeline, then do ‘Ctrl+C’ to copy all the tracks and events in your project timeline, then switch over to the second instance of Vegas, and do ‘Ctrl+V’, which should paste everything in your project to this 2nd instance of Vegas, then render it out…..what are the results?

I know this is jumping through hoops, just trying to suggest things that may lead to a solution.

The setting I suggest you try are for testing to see if your GPU has any thing to do with you issue, not necessarily what you would choose as the best setup. These are things the community has used in the paste to run down an issue.

Did those setting make any difference in the end result, the render?
