Any idea why my car isn’t running properly?… I put fresh air in the tires but that doesn’t seem to help.
Obviously this answer isn’t at all helpful, but neither is your question. What hardware are you using? What software are you using? What format are you using? What is your workflow leading up to the failure? Providing us with a few more details would probably give you a more useful answer.

I use Roxio Toast Titanium – as far as I know, that is the only Mac software currently available for simple authoring/burning of Blu-ray discs. I’m assuming you’re referring to Blu-ray – HD-DVD is a dead format. Toast does allow burning short high-def video onto standard DVDs, but I’m not sure if you can use a regular burner to do that or if you have to use a Blu-ray capable burner, which you would certainly need for longer videos (as well as Blu-ray discs of course). The HD disc function in DVDSP is a dead-end. PSP3 plays my “Toasted” Blu-ray discs no problem.

Is there a reason why you’re still at QT 7.5.5? I don’t know if this will solve your problem… I’m just curious. Also, what graphics card do you have installed?

Is it asking for a Streamclip update, or Apples MPEG 2 Playback Component?… my guess is the latter.

As Eric said earlier, MPEG Streamclip will do this for you – and it’s free (Mac & Windoze). I also use Cinematize – it works very well but it’s not free, and I’m not sure if it’s Mac only.

My guess is, he does not see colour info when he plays a disc and it only happens with certain discs… and does anyone have any advice.

What media are you using? (DVD-R should be used). What write speed are you using? (try the slowest you can). What bit rate are you using? (should be 7.5Mbps max.) And finally, what audio format are you authoring with? (should be .ac3).
If you can, try a different burner.

Not all DVD players are created equal, and older ones seem to be more susceptible to not playing “burned” DVDs compared to “pressed” DVDs. Ask one of your customers that has this problem to try playing the disc in a different player. If it plays okay, then it’s probably their original player.
