I am not having any luck getting an animation(1280×720 59.94 QT PR 422HQ) to play back correctly in FC or QT. Initially the animation codec was used for the AE exports but the file wouldn’t PB properly.

The animation moves horizontally from left to right and PB seems to stutter intermittently. These minor PB issues can be seen in the record monitor when the 59.94 source or sequence is playing back in FC. These same issues show up in all of the different exports I have tried from Final Cut(FC ref, FC self contained, Quicktime conversion.)

But the video on my monitor via the Kona card will PB the animation at the file’s native frame rate(59.94) or while doing an SD 29.97 conversion to Digibeta perfectly.

I had read that there were some H264 PB issues in QT with the 7.5.5 version but we are exporting lots of footage with the same work flow and have had none of the same problems.

I am very hesitant to say this animation is too complicated but so far the Kona card is the only thing that can play it back properly.

    Any suggestions or similar problems?

    Thanks
    Brad

    Hi Brad,
What do you intend to do with the animation?
1280×720 (as I just have discovered) is a frame standard for DVCproHD.

Is there a reason why you’re still at QT 7.5.5? I don’t know if this will solve your problem… I’m just curious. Also, what graphics card do you have installed?

    Rafael,

    Thank you for your response.

We are posting it to the web. We also archive sequences with a FC self- contained QT so we can make whatever we need later when the project is taken offline. The PB problems have followed the movie and/or gotten worse when it ends up compressed for something else.

Our current work flow with all other sequences related to this project have had no issues whether it is for the web or anywhere else.

We were originally working in a DVCProHD sequence because that is what the source was shot in. My understanding is that the footage shows up at 960×720 but displays at 1280×720(I have never understood this fully but just accepted this as part of working with DVCProHD media.) We have tried exporting from AE at 1280×720 and 960×720 and have had success with other animations at 960 but that did not work with the animation in question.

    Gary,

    Thanks for your response.

Our media is shared between four suites on a Terrablock system.
We have been told that all the systems accessing the shared media need to be running the same version of QT. We are currently testing this to see if we can do it another way.

We have a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT card.
