VST plugins are audio fx written in Virtual Studio Technology format. Vegas added VST support in version 6.

For DV playback, you want a broadcast monitor (or a TV if you can’t afford one). You go firewire out from the computer, then transcode it to composite or Y/C through a dedcated box or camcorder.

There are ways to capture to Mpeg, but not with Vegas. You want the direct DV transfer to avi to edit with.

And we’re talking about the external (DV) capture, and not the internal (HDV) capture?

Either render the two videos into one, or ad the second one to the project overview and make that the end action destination of the first one.
Capture the last frame of the second video and use that as the menu background so you can add the functional buttons.

You can easily add background areas and control their opacity by adding them to a track below the text.

The two approaches that come to mind would be to render out the bits you want to compile or delete out the parts (Ctrl/A Delete) you DON’T want, then group the elements of the remaining segments.
