On the Surround Sound Mixer, there is a button (to the left of Dim Output) to Downmix Output. That will let you hear your project in stereo.

In addition to Edward’s response, you should also know that if you right-click the image in the Pan/Crop tool to Match Output Ratio. That makes it easy to crop so the screen is filled.

The opacity can be set by both the track header slider and on individual events by dragging from the top edge of the event. If this is the case, you should see a horizontal line across the event.
