I have uploaded a :30 commercial to my web site which I rendered out as a DV avi. It is 108 megs and is 720×480. The client says they need to have it on a DVCpro or Beta SP tape because they plan on using some of the footage mixed in with their own footage.

My question is would there be any quality difference in the footage which I would send on tape (which I’m sure they would capture on to their hard drives for editing) and just simply using the avi from web delivery? Wouldn’t they end up with basically the same quality? It would save me the time and effort and cost of getting a dvc copy done and shipping overnight charges.

Thanks for any info and knowledge you might offer.

If your source was DV to start with, then the avi is going to be sufficient.

Thank you Gary. The client agreed that the uploaded avi was the same quality that they would get if it was on tape and they had to capture it. The web is a good delivery system for :30 spots. I’m kind of surprised most broadcasters still want the videotape. I don’t do much commercial work but the web sure seems like a great delivery tool to me and saves a pretty good hunk of change from having to go out of house to get a Beta or DVC pro dub made (all I have is mind dv and dvcam stuff).

    thanks again for the input….Phil

I was thinking of this issue myself a few weeks ago when I was compelled to shoot some weather video while driving in a visually compelling downpour. Why not deliver the “voice-over” video, complete with natural-sound, to the Weather Channel via Web Delivery versus DVCpro which would make the video useless as it wouldn’t get there ’till the next day ?

Anyone know of a You-Tube-Like WWW site that caters to freelance shhoters who want their :30sec (:32 to black) VOs aired ?

    Thanks, Patrick
