I recently upgraded to Vegas 7 & DVD Architect. I’ve done quite a bit of hobbyist editing but never tried to repurpose snapshots of frames, or insert photos or Photoshopped panels on the timeline. I’m getting a little frustrated trying to make anything come out the right size. Seems no matter what I do I come up short on the sides or the top & bottom. I would think that for an NTSC 720×480 project, I could create 720×480 graphics, such as for a DVD header screen in DVD Architect — but it’s apparently not that simple.

The manuals don’t have much to say about it. Is there, somewhere, a guide to working with photos & graphics, or maybe a digestible reference to dimensions, aspect ratios, size, pixels, etc.?

I’m sure it’s been discussed here before, but I must not know what to search on, as I’m coming up dry.

    Thanks for any tips!

720×480 is not square pixels. In your photo editor, use 655×480 which will properly stretch to 720×480 when added to the timeline.

In addition to Edward’s response, you should also know that if you right-click the image in the Pan/Crop tool to Match Output Ratio. That makes it easy to crop so the screen is filled.
