March 27, 2007 at 3:13 pm in reply to: Trimmer usage / editing workflow techniques… what’s yours?I do use the trimmer sometimes, but do almost all of my trimming on the timeline.
I can see, with 3-hour clips, why you find that cumbersome. Even with the trimmer, you are better off working with shorter clips if you can.
For gross trimming and deleting of unwanted footage, scrubbing through the timeline or trimmer by dragging is much faster than using JKL (no need to use I and O keys that way either).

I believe that this particular author’s bias against Vegas was discussed at length on various boards when his comparative review of Vegas 6 was published.
Anyway, a statement like “Tools that are simple in other applications, such as trim windows for cutting unwanted frames, seem perplexingly complicated in Movie Studio.” simply show an ignorance of just how easy things are to do in Vegas.

You can do it using the Edit Details tab (view > Edit Details or Alt/6).
Set it to Show > Markers.

No, you want to go firewire out > transcoder (box or camcorder) > monitor via svideo or composite video.

If you know the assets are 4.3 GB or less, go ahead and create your (single layer) DVD and ignore the size estimate.
