OK, You want to have text buttons that are invisible unless selected, yes?
You can do this with highlight masking. Create the text in black with a transparent background (in a graphics program) and save the mask as a png file. Be sure and place the text where you want your buttons to be.
In DVDA, create your buttons so the box that defines their area will cover where your text in your mask will be and change their highlighting style to one of the overlay modes.Delete both image and text for your buttons so that they are invisible when not seleted.
Add the mask to Menu Page Properties>Highlight Mask.
That should do it.

I am not sure why your file is not being recognized.
You need not create a second page of buttons first, just drag your media into the project overview, right click and choose ‘inser secene selection menu’. Then just drag the ‘start-at-chapter’ buttons from there.

If you are producing work for broadcast, you MUST use a calibrated monitor. What you are doing is like producing a music CD and listening to your mix on a transister radio.

The batch rendering in Vegas is more for rendering multiple formats of rthe same material and goes like this:
Go to Tools > Scripting> Batch Render, and a dialog box will pop up. The main trick here is NOT to check on one of the unexpaneded options (e.g. Mpeg 2). First expand the categories and check what you need.
You can choose to render the project, selection or regions. If you set up your different sections as regions, you can probably get where you are going.
In Excalibur, the Asset Collector has more options such as render BOTH the whole project and regions in the same or different formats as well as grabbing still images for you.

A hard one to answer directly. Some things render noticably faster, some render a bit faster, and others are a bit slower.

Preferences > General >uncheck ‘enable media manager (3rd from bottom).
If that doesn’t do it you can also uninstall Sony Media Manager and Microsoft SQL Server.
