As Peter says, this is one of the advantages of shooting on HD for SD delivery. On my Vegas 6 Primer and Vegas 6 Companion videos, I have an example of a Lacross game where I use Vegas to pan and zoom as the players pass the ball.

The end result is that it looks like I’m such a good camera man, that I know where the ball will go BEFORE it’s passed 🙂

  • [mikelinton] “if you capture through the Decklink to Sony YUV – then do any kind of post processing of your footage, it’s going to completely fall apart…”

    Michael,

Why would you want to capture DV through ANY codec? I would think the starting point is simply to get the DV onto the hard drive with no processsing.

Also, please tell us more about wanting to work with 486.

If your project is set to 30fps interlaced, then the video created on the timeline will have those properties, including 2 fields per frame.

There is no point in rendering first to another format rather than rendering directly to Mpeg2 in Vegas.

Choose the DVDA video stream template, and for computer animation, I would suggest changing the rendering quality from ‘Good’ to ‘Best’. If it is a short segment, then disc space should be no problem, so set the bit rate to CBR 8,200,000.

Vegas will always recompress your Mpeg2 files. ( I hoope this changes some day). In the meantime you should look into software that is made for Mpeg editing such as Womble’s Mpeg Video Wizard. It works as you have described by recomressing only transitions, etc.

This color pass techinique is done with the Secondary Color Corrector.

Use the ‘select effect range’ eydropper to drag across the color you want to keep (in preview window).

Click on invert mask, then pull down the saturation. This will leave your defined color intact and the rest will be desaturated.

November 21, 2005 at 7:10 am in reply to: Can I move DVDA markers on timeline as a group?

[klimvid] “don’t know if media can be moved on the DVDA timeline. Can it? If so, how?”

You can’t move the primary video, but you CAN move the video on additional tracks. So, in this case you could put a short video on Video track one and your ‘real’ video on track two. Then just make sure the second angle is all that plays.

But.. you did not say that the 35 markers comprise ALL your markers or I would have already suggested that.
