Hold just Ctrl (turning off Lock Aspect Ratio).
For the red lines, either create them as a graphic file, or using generated media that is resized with pan/crop and positioned with track motion.

Actually, my first authroing program was DVD Workshop. I haven’t used it in quite a while, so hard to make a comparison. I DO remember thinking that the workflow of DVDA was totally the opposite of DVDW, and I had to unlearn my thinking a bit to use DVDA.

Of course, I am pretty comfortable with it now 🙂

Let’s start over…

Drag your media file onto the menu. This becomes your Play All Button (I usually name it ‘PLAY’).

Right-click the PLAY button and choose Insert Scene Selection Menu and you’ll get a second button called ‘Scene Selection'(again, name whatever you want). That will take you to another menu with separate chapter buttons.

I just loaded some bwfs and was hoping to see the timcode on the timeline events, but no go.

How about using a clapboard? Low-tech but this has worked since the 1920s. (though not nearly as elegant as what you are trying to do).

If the text is transparent, how will we see it? Do you want to do this with an outline of the text? Does the text appear within the button, or does it have to cross over into the background?

Editing Mpeg 2 is nothing new, but keep in mind that Vegas cannot create a new Mpeg file from what you edit without recompressing the (already highly)compressed video.

1)Create your letterbox effect by adding a mask to a track above everything else.

or

2)Bring your project on to a new timeline as a nested veg and add the Pan/Cropp setting to that.
