FCPX won’t be “optimized” for the new Mac Pro and more than you would say the current version is “optimized” for the iMac vs. the Mac Mini.

FCPX takes advantage of CPU advancements in Sandy/Ivy/Haswell, and GPU acceleration via OpenCL. What more needs to be “optimized” for the Mac Pro?

I suspect the people who most want the ability to reframe will simply be zooming in on 4k on a 4k timeline.

And then render down to 1080 for the master.

Like what we did with the jump from 480 to 1080.

That’s something I’ve been very interested in: real-world render times. I mean, how much faster *exactly* is the Xeon 12-core going to be against, say, an iMac, for FCPX/Premiere/After Effects renders? If the new Mac Pro is a significant gain over the old one, or over an iMac, that will be something.

But if I’m ultimately not going to gain that much (which could be for a variety of reasons), then perhaps the iMac is the way to go.

I mean, I know on paper the new Mac Pro should be screaming, but I’d like to see some actual numbers for that.

You actually never specified exactly, so I merely made an assumption. A poor assumption, but frankly, that was just a snark and not the crux of my dismissal of it.

Not sure where that’s coming from…I guess you easily get confused between conversations with different people? You keep alluding to things that were never said or expressed. I said that poor audio on a standup would be inexcusable, but I don’t see how that equates to “Local news sends out a 2 person crew to cover local stories.”

I would suspect that the actual video will be understandable in its poor production values, thus rendering your entire point ridiculously absurd.

Not at all, but I think we need to be aware of when we created a story out of nothing from editing, and when we simply got out of the way as an editor.

I’m just trying to understand what the idea of “high end” editing is (outside of having a great DP who delivers astounding footage in the first place).

Yes, I don’t know if the slim ExpressCard version requires a driver or not. Some do, some don’t (the other Sonnet SD card reader (the 21-in-1) didn’t require a driver, while the UHS-I reader did. So you might need a driver with the slim-line version of the eSATA card, while the Tempo-Pro doesn’t.
