[Paul Dickin]Since it was the music production people who needed a FW port to run a multi-channel audio interface into Logic they were never concerned about the MacBook Air – it was too expensive and too underpowered for professional music production.

The petition explicitly mentions purchasing a MacBook (not Pro) or a MacBook Air. Apple added a 13″ MacBook Pro with the FW800 ports…and you have no idea that the petition itself was the reason they did that in the first place.

[Paul Dickin]The petition in 2008/9 over the removal of the FireWire port in the first unibody MacBooks was short and to the point, got over 18,000 signatures. and was successful – the port was reinstated in the next model to be sold.

The petition clearly states that it is aiming for the return of the FireWire port in consumer notebooks, à la the MacBook and the MacBook Air. To date, Apple has not put a FireWire port in either model, so the petition was a failure.

  • Yes, Internet petitions aren’t worth the paper they’re written on…

It is strongly recommended that you install Final Cut Pro X, Motion 5, and Compressor 4 on a startup disk that does not have Final Cut Studio (2009) already installed.

Hey, that’s great. Sounds perfectly workable on a MacBook…

Well, I’m sorry but being able to mix multiple formatted video clips in the same timeline is a great feature to have, has nothing to do with your editing ability or not.

I’m not sure what your point is exactly.

I guarantee you that FCP X is being groomed to eventually end up on iOS as well.

I doubt they ask for Final Cut Pro “X” specifically. They’ve probably just heard that “professional” editors use FCP, and will merely ask for that, not really thinking about what version of it you’ll be using, or what being able to work in FCPX vs FCP7 is any better/different.

I just checked out my Premiere CS5.5 export options and AAF is definitely one of them.

Wait…no “Import iMovie Project”…guess you can’t have everything.

FCP X is being groomed to eventually go to iOS, as will all of Apple’s hardware offerings at some point in the (relatively) near future.
