June 25, 2011 at 1:14 pmHi
The likelihood of Apple marketing changing their marketing and naming because of a petition?
Zilch. The likelihood of Apple giving away the patents and core code from Shake, FC Server, Motion, Color?
ZilchThe likelihood of Apple breaking QuickTime 7 and FCS 3 sometime relatively soon as they continue to port iOS 5 into OS X 10.7/8?
Highly likely. That leaves the status quo – freeze your FCS 3 workstations pre-Lion.
Which is what Apple has done.
Albeit in a draconian and arbitrary way 🙁 -

June 25, 2011 at 1:53 pmThis petition is a waste of time because the bottom 2 request are not even close to being realistic. The petition could have some use if it requested:
– the temporary reinstatement of FCS3 availability and support
– the rapid implementation and deployment of missing pro features in FCP X (then list them but we all know what’s missing)
– a new release of Color
– a roadmap of Apple’s plans concerning all of thesethen at least the petition would have some probability of being heard. Remember when Microsoft said they would no longer support XP, in support of Vista? The backlash led MS to backtrack and support XP at least until its follow-up to Windows.
When you make unrealistic demands, you’re not even going to be taken seriously.

June 25, 2011 at 4:51 pmI wouldn’t demand apple to make a new color, but as long as you can import/export from final cut, users should be able to use the existing color, or another color grading software.
Asking for in/out is much more realistic than apple creating another app to go with the bundle, don’t get me wrong it would be nice, but apple clearly built parts of color into final cut. I doubt they would make a new version of color.

June 25, 2011 at 6:24 pmThe childlike innocence and naiveté of that petition is almost endearing.
Here’s an interesting scenario: if, in the next few months, Biscardi, Harrington and a number of other production houses and editors (the ones that aren’t blowing smoke) spend the time, effort and money to switch to another NLE, what would be their response if Apple then initiated all the changes you want? Would there be a second backlash? One in which Apple is accused of costing them undue time and capital because Apple didn’t EOL FCS3?
This may be the peek of the anti-FCP X backlash and there are only 144 signatures on that petition. That’s out of a million users! When the missing pieces of FCP X are gradually or quickly filled in, what will be the state of this backlash movement ? AJA, Magic Bullet, Saphire, and Noise Industries (and maybe others) have already jumped on board, so the prediction that there would be no support from plugin and hardware manufacturers (at least not right away) is clearly eroding.
Tick, tick, tick…
So, for good or for bad, with every day, there is more support for FCP X and a new nail in the coffin of FCS3. You can hang around this forum hijacking all the positive posts and putting down the people who write them, you can spend all your time on this forum hawking other NLEs, you can blow smoke and bitch all you want expecting Apple to roll back time, or you can move from this bargaining stage onto depression and acceptance (or maybe straight to acceptance), embrace FCP X, or find your next true love in another NLE and finally, thankfully, move on.
