I also agree that college is a good start. Thats where I got started…unfortunately I’m still making about the same amount of money as I made in college.

But its a good place to learn some skills and make some connections. Oh….and learn how to make potato salad or another side.

I agree…if they bought a completed show from you…thats all they get. You own the raw footage. Of course, they can buy the footage if you’d like. I suppose you could give it to them but you are not obligated to hand it over unless you are contractually obligated to do so.

But a boycott of 100 people doesn’t work if one person cooperates. I’m amazed that kids cooperate for these kinds of schemes…I guess its that young eager desire to get started in the biz.

Of course, I also see things differently since my corporate job description was revised when I turned 50. I was told I could apply for the new job if I wanted to compete for it. I decided to take the severance pay and went into business for myself. Now I make less money (for the time being) but I write the job descriptions…

Of course, I could probably make more money if I could get some young and eager kids to work for free…

Today my local Craigslist also has an internship position available immediately. They want someone with a 3 chip digital cam to shoot 12-15 hours of nature footage up to 4 hours out of town…edit it into a 90 minute sequence to their specs. If they accept it it may lead to more contract work with royalties…

    sheesh….

Do they have a catalog of music that is useful? You cannot browse their catalog without signing onto the service…

  • I master on DVD-Rs as well. When my clients say the DVD is skipping I copy it onto a DVD+R and it fixes the problem 99% of the time. There are still compatibility issues with burned discs and some players.

I’ve got a couple JVC and a couple Panasonic models that all let you build an auto play disc. When you finalize the disc you choose a menu item that lets the disc palya utomatically or stop at the basic menu. I don’t like the way the menu looks so I make all my discs “auto play”.

    hey Neurosoul…

I’ve been using screenplays for about a year and a half..I recognize your name from the Applied Magic forums. I put together a Vegas system last fall…right after 7.0 came out. I really like Vegas and am using it more and more…with my screenplays doing the bulk of my film transfer work…and Vegas for a lot of other projects.

I never bought any Digital Juice vesions for screenplays…but I have a bunch of their regular jumpbacks. they work great on Vegas. If I want to use on on the screenplay I print to tape then capture in the screenplay. I usually pick a handful of jumpbacks that I want on the screenplay…and then load them onto all four of my screenplays. They are easier to use on Vegas, though. And they have been offering some great buys over the past few months.

I’ll probably buy Excaliber soon…and maybe the Veggie Toolkit as well (Randall who authored the Veggie Toolkit is a member of the Vegas Users Group that I host).

Just a follow-up in case anybody is reading with the same problem.

sony was no help…their tech support said that routine was designed to work on the small camcorder discs not other discs. So I’ve been experimenting. Got a disc from a DVD camcorder and it imported fine. So the routine and my particular install worked. So I made a disc with another burner…and it worked…so for some reason unknown to me….the routine works EXCEPT on discs burned on my JVC recorded.

At this point I’m not sure what the JVC does differently…I guess that will be the next mystery to unravel.
