[Steve Rhoden] “Ive never liked or even bothered using Vegas 11.”

Interesting…but this could lead me into a whole different conversation.

[Steve Rhoden] “Seems you only having issues with the acquired sources of
    those mpeg2 and mpeg4 files.”

I’m not so sure. They render fine if I render out to the Quicktime 7 template. The wmv template also worked fine. Then I pulled that whole project and put it on another machine that also has Vegas 11 and it rendered the mpeg2 with no problems…

I may install an older version of Vegas today and see if that makes a difference

Vegas completed the render of the quicktime file. It only seems to crash when rendering mpeg2 or mpeg4 files…

Funny…there is no way anybody would stand for using this mic in a stage performance with the noise it makes. I don’t think its just mounting that causes the noise…ANY movement along the cable causes noise…

I don’t use it that often but I’ve had it too long to return it…I guess I’ll just get another mic to go with this wireless rig so I at least have something usable next time its required…

Never mind…I found out how to do this….you have to make your color corrections at the media level….this seemed to work…I’m doing a test render to see if the output looks alright because you don’t get a preview when you edit the media file after the multicam edit is completed….

I’ll try the second half of the project tomorrow…

I don’t have an answer but I will offer a few comments.

I belong to the local Chamber…it doesn’t help by itself…but it can help provide visibility and contacts…if you are active in the chamber. Not just membership but involvement…which means touching people and networking.

Buying equipment doesn’t bring business…but it might help you complete the jobs if you get them.

You certainly can try SCORE…I did and didn’t find people who understood what I was trying to accomplish…but its worth a try. If you work by yourself sometimes its good to have somebody else to listen to your plans and see if they make sense to an outsider.

I had a client this past week ask if I could recommend some software for him to edit at home. He wanted something with lots of different transitions…what he was using now only had a limited amounts of options. I told him I wasn’t sure which packages offered the most transitions because I only used cuts and dissolves….

I’m not sure that he understood my point….

Ok…I’ve been messing with it since I posted the question…I really thought the timecode would continue along the time line….didn’t realize it could reset by splitting the clip.

Its done. Now at least the answer is in the archive in case somebody else searches for it.

    Thanks, Steve

August 27, 2008 at 2:18 am in reply to: use of Democratic Convention broadcast

The question made me think about C-Span. Knowing that the fed government can’t copyright products they create…it caused me to look at the C-Span copyright policy.

They say that the do not copyright non-commercial use of federal government sponsored events like House and Senate proceedings…but that coverage does not apply to privately sponsored events (like the convention).

    Interesting….

Thats hilarious….I’ve got to remember that….

I had one of these a few months ago. A shoot for a department at a major university. They contacted me…and were shopping around but the shoot was about four days away…so they couldn’t get many takers.

We negotiated a terms and she wanted me to talk with her supervisor. Over the weekend I contracted freelance help…scouted the location…coordinated with the technical director of the facility. Got everything in place…fast.

Spoke with the supervisor the next business day…everything was cool…I told her since it was quick planning I would need payment of 50% the next day before beginning the shoot with the balance to be paid upon completion of the edit. She agreed…no problem.

The next day about 3 hours before the shoot I got a call from another faculty member who wanted to go over some details…by the end of the call the guy wants to cancel the shoot.

My gut instinct was they couldn’t afford the project (or chose not to pay spend the money). But I got stiffed. I’m just glad I asked for money up front…rather than doing the job and getting stiffed at the end.
