This is what I use….I’ve got the seven bay unit…but the four bay is less money. Works great…no problems after nine months.

I had a very similar message when I tried to capture yesterday…although mine specified the Falcone (sp?) card…and I don’t even know what is a Falcone card. I poked around on the video capture menu and and eventually saw a choice between the Falcone card and Windows AVI. I clicked Windows AVI and I was back in business.
I’m not suing the decklink card but capturing through a JVC mini-dv cam into the firewire port..but I’m wondering if you can find a configuration option in the Video menu like I did…

I wouldn’t refund money for montages. Clients need to approve the product before they take it. I might offer to make reasonable revisions but not wholesale changes. Its hard to stop clients from making copies. I try to price copies low enough that they buy copies at the point of sale but after they take the disc all bets are off…

Yes…that’s the import routine that I tried. When I navigate to the disc (or to the folder if I move the HD), no file shows up in the menu. Same result if the file is left as a VOB or renamed as a .mov.
Maybe in the morning I’ll try a disc recorded on a different burner…see if i get a different result…

September 1, 2006 at 12:59 pm in reply to: B&H price dropped to US$99 for Vegas (exclu architect)I figured the pdf would be $38-40 to print. Found this book for $24 and decided to try it first. Its getting me going. I’ve read good things about the DSE book but it wasn’t in stock and I wanted a quick start.
I may buy the video training…but I have to admit I HATE sitting through video training…and they usually don’t get used…
Coincidently I do have a Vegas Users group holding its first meeting in my shop in a couple weeks. Maybe I will inherit some local support.

I edited on discrete edit for years…this interface looks a bit different but it already looks pretty powerful. Do you guys use two monitors for editing? I may have to buy another video card…I feel that more desktop realestate will be useful….

August 30, 2006 at 9:31 pm in reply to: B&H price dropped to US$99 for Vegas (exclu architect)Gotta read the fine print…this version came without a box or a MANUAL! A manual is an essential tool for a newbie to the software. I guess I’m off to the copy center to get a printout from the manual.pdf.
I didn’t expect B&H would strip the box…..maybe other vendors but not B&H….

I’ve been in the position of the inside guy many times…and have had the VP try to get footage/masters from my vendors for a song. One time it got ugly. The Marketing VP wanted to sell the footage and completed project to a stock house that would re-cut and sell the material as spots to other similar companies. This would reduce the comapnies overall cost on the original prouction and “the savior” would look like a real hero.
But the savior had no right to do so…and the production company would not give them the footage…but offered a sale. The VP was very angry and was sure she was in the right but the corporate attorney led to to realize she had no rights.
Realize…you have already lost this client. You can take the high road…and hope you do not end up with any additional expense (due to residuals that you have already mentioned.) And you can explain that you cannot give them the footage due to your relationship with your suppliers…but you could sell them the master for $(fill in the blank) price.
Make it worth your while…your training guy may still use you…the new marketing guru has her own ideas that don’t include you…get some oney while you have an opportunity.
