August 30, 2006 at 9:31 pmGotta read the fine print…this version came without a box or a MANUAL! A manual is an essential tool for a newbie to the software. I guess I’m off to the copy center to get a printout from the manual.pdf.
I didn’t expect B&H would strip the box…..maybe other vendors but not B&H….

August 31, 2006 at 8:57 amThe box is no big deal, and the printed manual is a subset of the PDF. In otherwords, the PDF contains extra info that’s not in the printed manual. Always look on the bright side…

August 31, 2006 at 10:15 amyep, doesn’t the printed manual only contain the first 3 chapters anyway? never bought the boxed product myself, so not sure

August 31, 2006 at 12:37 pmThe pdf is 408 pages….I was considering getting it printed. But I’ll wait and leave a copy on the desktop for reference. Bought the book “Vegas 6 Revealed” last night. That will get me started.
I edited on discrete edit for years…this interface looks a bit different but it already looks pretty powerful. Do you guys use two monitors for editing? I may have to buy another video card…I feel that more desktop realestate will be useful….

many want to print the PDF, and many baulk when they realise the cost. I bought DSE’s book. Many swear by the DVD training sets out there, from Gary & others.

September 1, 2006 at 12:59 pmI figured the pdf would be $38-40 to print. Found this book for $24 and decided to try it first. Its getting me going. I’ve read good things about the DSE book but it wasn’t in stock and I wanted a quick start.
I may buy the video training…but I have to admit I HATE sitting through video training…and they usually don’t get used…
Coincidently I do have a Vegas Users group holding its first meeting in my shop in a couple weeks. Maybe I will inherit some local support.

As a discrete editor of 11 years, I can assure you the transistion is not only possible, but enjoyable. My hardest challenge was cut-and-paste – didn’t get the fact that after you copy multiple tracks, the track you click on becomes the destination, and everything else happens on tracks below. Apart from that, the rest is pretty intuitive.
