Just bought Vegas 7…I do weddings, recitals etc..your typical event videographer who has now ugraded to canon xha1 cameras from vx2000s. Both vassis 3.0 and excalibur look good for multicam with Vassis having more features. Pros and cons to both? Since my proprietory juicebacks/motions etc. won’t work in P.C. how about the prodad and pixeland stuff. pros and cons and any little buggy stuff I need to know about all these software packages before purchase. I really look forward to learning Vegas.

    Neurosoul –

I have both Prodad and Pixelan Spicemaster. I use both of them quite often. What I enjoy about both of them is their flexibility. You are only limited by your imagination. Prodad has a bit of a learning curve whereas Pixelan, at least for me, was easy to pick up. You might also consider picking up the Pixelan CreativeEase packs. Prodad changed a lot with this latest version so I actually picked up the tutorial and am finding it very useful. You might do a search of archives to get even more opinions as both products have been discussed many times.

    Have a great day.

Are you referring to the Digital Juice jumpbacks, etc.?
If yes, they will most definitely work in a PC as that’s what I’m using them on.

Well… I’m the author of Excalibur so, naturally, I really like how it works. I’ve used it for years in event type work. It’s really best if you just try them both out and see which you like best. You can also look at the multi-cam video I have here: https://www.jetdv.com/excalibur as an example of how Excalibur does multi-cam.

My present editing set up is centered around the Applied-Magic screenplay system which is propriatory. The digital jumpback folks as well as prodad, pixeland etc. made stuff specifically for the screenplay system that is not p.c. based. Screenplay is a great event video editing appliance realtime, a/b roll editing wavelet compression etc. and it is as intuitive as it gets. Learning curve is all of 30 minutes yet very powerful editing stuff. Not as good with the special effects, but good editing trumps special effects in the test of time. I’ve had it since 99′ and it still rocks. Sorry to get off topic.

    hey Neurosoul…

I’ve been using screenplays for about a year and a half..I recognize your name from the Applied Magic forums. I put together a Vegas system last fall…right after 7.0 came out. I really like Vegas and am using it more and more…with my screenplays doing the bulk of my film transfer work…and Vegas for a lot of other projects.

I never bought any Digital Juice vesions for screenplays…but I have a bunch of their regular jumpbacks. they work great on Vegas. If I want to use on on the screenplay I print to tape then capture in the screenplay. I usually pick a handful of jumpbacks that I want on the screenplay…and then load them onto all four of my screenplays. They are easier to use on Vegas, though. And they have been offering some great buys over the past few months.

I’ll probably buy Excaliber soon…and maybe the Veggie Toolkit as well (Randall who authored the Veggie Toolkit is a member of the Vegas Users Group that I host).

Gary C I persume. Small world. Vegas seemed like a good start into HD and multicam. Do you use a titler with your vegas. I did buy the excaliber multicam. Still using the screenplay as it is still the fast editing I know for some of the event stuff I do. I’ll use Vegas for multicam and other stuff screenplay can’t do.

    Take care
